Introduction

The School of Nursing of the University of Minho (ESE-UM) is an organic unit of teaching and research of polytechnic nature, which ensures graduate and postgraduate education, research and other specialized services within nursing.

The school is a structure with its own agencies and personnel, through which the University makes a statement of its mission, in the nursing knowledge area and related fields, with special emphasis on dimensions of teaching and research. It brings together human and material resources appropriate for the development of their educational, scientific and technical activities within autonomous projects or in partnership with other units, which meet the University’s’ mission and objectives.

The School of Nursing of the University of Minho is a national and international reference in the Teaching of Nursing. It received the Award of Honor for Excellence in Education in 2006, awarded by the Ibero-American Council in Honor of Educational Quality. In 2013 the ODAEE (Organización de las Américas para la Excelencia Educativa) will also award the ESE-UM with the Sapientia Award for the Educational Excellence).

The present ESE-UM Dean, Professor Maria Isabel Lage, was also awarded in 2013 by the same organization, ODAEE, with a Medal for her excellent Quality Education Management. Maria Isabel Lage was also awarded with the Medal "El Flechador del Sol", granted jointly by the ODAEEand the Universidad de Cuautitlán Izcalli (México)

Its teaching is essentially characterized by its high quality and by its high standards. Investing in a solid training base which promotes scientific, technical, cultural, personal, and ethical development in students has been a constant concern as well as a strong investment in post-graduate education in Nursing.

It is intended to provide students with knowledge and instruments on the domain of palliative care which enable professionals to deliver high-quality healthcare; the course also develops self-analysis potentialities oriented to problem-solving and decision-making regarding palliative care, as well as a space for joint reflection on palliative care nursing. Rehabilitation Nursing Specialization Certificate, recognized by the Order of Nurses ECTS: 60 Duration: 2 semesters Location: Campus of Gualtar, Braga Scientific area: Nursing The present socio-demographical changes in European countries, particularly aging and decreasing birth rates, have been target of concern by the different involved responsible entities aiming at implement action strategies which can effectively answer these new societal challenges. Living healthily and autonomously as long as possible is, thus, a challenge to social responsibility with significant repercussions regarding its development. The course of Postgraduate Specialization in Rehabilitation Nursing aims to train nurses to help individuals to reorganize their health project in accordance with the needs arising from transition experiences, accidental or predictable.
