Message from the Dean Welcome to the ISCTE Business School. IBS is a pioneer School in the teaching of management and business sciences, and the first where this was an autonomous area as opposed to a subject taught within the field of economics. The links to the corporate world are a distinctive feature of our School. Since the outset, IBS has relied on the support of invited faculty from the business world whose collaboration has provided valuable input for our curricula.… [+] It is therefore not surprising that, regardless of the economic environment, successive generations of students have enjoyed employability rates close to 100%. Even more importantly, companies recognise the high quality of the training given to IBS students and this confidence is boosted by the volume and excellence of the research produced by our faculty members and researchers. Internationalisation is the second distinguishing feature of our School. Not only does IBS teach courses in partnerships with universities from Asia, Africa and South America but, within the Portuguese university framework, IBS has also pioneered the setting-up of a support office for Erasmus students. This model, which works in conjunction with universities around the world, has attracted so many foreign students that we have been unable to attain full reciprocity despite the growing number of IBS students who benefit from a training experience abroad. The ability to work in an international setting is clearly demonstrated by the number of Alumni working abroad, many of whom hold leadership positions in multinational companies. Innovation and entrepreneurship are the third distinctive feature of our School. Pedagogical innovation led to the updating of syllabuses as well as the introduction of new teaching methods; these include the development of case studies and software support for management and distance learning instruments. It is not by chance that many reference texts in the various management fields have been written by IBS faculty. Lastly, special mention must be made of the close relationship that IBS faculty and staff develop with our students and the concern for their well-being as this is a decisive factor for the high academic performance of our students. The intellectual rigour in the classroom, the promotion of teamwork and the exposure to real case studies allow IBS to create value for our students and guarantee they make a positive contribution to the development of the national and global community. BRIEF HISTORY EU THE University of Évora It was the second university to be established in Portugal. After the founding of the University of Coimbra in 1537, it has been felt the need for another university to serve the South. Évora, ecclesiastical metropolis and temporary residence of the Court, emerged immediately as the most suitable city. Although the original idea of the creation of the second University Kingdom, have belonged to John III, was given by Cardinal Henry its embodiment. Interested in educational issues, she began by founding the College of the Holy Spirit, entrusting him to the then newly founded Society of Jesus. Even the works of the building stemmed and has asked Cardinal of Rome transformation of the College in full University. With the approval of Pope Paul IV, expressed in the bull Cum nobis April 1559, the new university was created, with the right to teach all subjects except medicine, civil law and litigation of the Canon Law. The solemn inauguration took place on November 1 of that year. Even today, this day marks the anniversary of the University, with the ceremony of solemn opening of the academic year. The main subjects taught were philosophy, Moral, Scripture, Speculative Theology, Rhetoric, Grammar and Humanities, which fully enter this university in the traditional frame against reformist European Catholic institutions of higher education, most of which, incidentally, controlled by the Jesuits . In the reign of Dom Pedro II, was to be introduced the teaching of Mathematics, covering subjects as diverse as geography, physics, or Military Architecture. The prestige of the University of Évora during the two centuries of its existence first phase confused with the prestige and the scientific value of its teachers. To it they were linked relevant names in Portuguese and Spanish culture, which is important to emphasize, first and foremost, Luis de Molina, theologian and moralist of creativity and European renown. In Évora, PhD was another luminary of the Iberian culture of that time, the Jesuit Francisco Suárez, then a professor at the University of Coimbra. Here taught for a while Pedro da Fonseca, considered the most important philosopher Portuguese sixteenth century, celebrated the effort of neo-scholastic renovation of Aristotelian thought. Despite the attempts of modernization and openness to new scientific spirit that characterize the eighteenth-century university, it must be acknowledged, however, that the example of his elder sister of Coimbra, his efforts did not translate into actual opening of minds to the needs of new times. Despite the high individual value of many teachers, the education system as a whole, proved misfit and outdated. Évora participated thus the global trend of turning back to Transpirenaica Europe that characterized the majority of elites and Iberian cultural institutions of the Old Regime. When the political and cultural climate of the mid-eighteenth century began to reveal hostile to the Jesuits, no wonder that the University of Évora has been easily become a target of the reform and centralist policy of Pombal. On February 8, 1759 - two hundred years after the foundation - the University was surrounded by cavalry troops, as a result of the decree of expulsion and banishment of the Jesuits. After a long time in prison under arms, the masters were eventually taken to Lisbon, where many were imprisoned in the notorious Fort Junqueira. Others were summarily deported to the Papal States. From the second half of the nineteenth century, settled in the noble building Henrique's the Lyceum of Évora, to which the Queen Dona Maria II granted the prerogative of the use of "cloak and cassock", in keeping with university tradition of the city and the building . In 1973, by decree of the then Minister of Education, José Veiga Simão, he created the University Institute of Evora which was to be abolished in 1979, to make way for the new University of Évora. Despite the results achieved, it is important that these levels of demand are strengthened and visible in the institution's mission because that is the only way to ensure that IPCB challenges and tests each of us individually and the entire academic community collectively: lecturers, students, non-teaching staff and external agents. The availability of a wide range of study opportunities, strong links to the business world, educational, social and cultural worlds, to our close coordination with the labour market, the transfer of knowledge and technology and the strategy of internationalisation, guarantee our graduates a comprehensive training through the acquisition and development of scientific and technical, linguistic, relational and cultural skills, thus preparing them to respond competitively to the demands of a borderless labour market, but also providing them with requirements to create and develop themselves, by encouraging creativity and entrepreneurship. The provision of lifelong learning programs also allows for those who are already higher education holders or who are already in the labour market, the necessary adaptation to new challenges and new requirements. We know the scale of the challenges and we are fully aware of the role and responsibility of the IPCB in the country's future and development of the region. But we assume this condition and the commitment to lead this project serving knowledge and the people. Welcome to the Castelo Branco Polytechnic Institute!

For identical positions, wages in the social sector are much lower than in the public or private sectors. GOS – Management of Social Organizations, is the result of a partnership that AESE and ENTRAJUDA established in order to provide management training to the leaders of social institutions. Participants see the GOS as an opportunity to reflect upon the efficient use of the scarce resources that institutions have at their disposal, to develop a strategy more tailored to their objectives and to motivate the personnel of the institution.
