Introduction

History of the MUL

The Medical University of Lodz was inaugurated on October 1, 2002 as a merger of two Medical Schools: the Medical Academy of Lodz and the Military Medical Academy of Lodz by the Act of the Polish Parliament of July 27, 2002. The Medical Academy of Lodz was founded on January 1, 1950 by separating from the University of Lodz three faculties: Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical.

The Military Medical Academy of Lodz was established by the Order of the Ministry of National Defense of May 1958, however its traditions date back to 1922. In the course of their existence, the Medical Academy and the Military Medical Academy have graduated over 34,000 physicians, dentists, pharmacists and other medical specialists. The Medical University continues the tradition of both medical schools, being the successor of their rich heritage.

The Medical University of Lodz is the largest state-owned medical university in Poland whose mission is:

  • educating students in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and medicine-allied disciplines;
  • educating research staff and conducting research work;
  • conducting postgraduate training of highly qualified health care system staff;
  • participating in health care programs set by the social health care system.

MUL has recently dedicated a new clinical and education centre with a hospital, hotel and conference centre as well as classrooms and labs. The conference auditorium can seat up to 1,000 guests.

It is a full-time study program based on requirements which are obligatory for the Polish medical higher education institutions and is adequate to EU and U.S. standards. Program consists of 3 years ( 6 semesters) of pre-clinical, basic subjects; anatomy, medical chemistry, biology, biophysics, physiology, histology and cell biology, microbiology, pathomorphology, pharmacology and others and 3 years (6 semesters) of clinical subjects as internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, radiology, family medicine, neurology, oncology & palliative care, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, infectious diseases and others.... Doctor of Medicine - MD Advanced

MD ADVANCED program is a part of the 6- year program destined for the university/college graduates of the pre-medical studies with the BSc degree minimum. Students are transferred directly to the 3rd year of the Advanced MD program. The duration of the program – 4 years. [+]

Doctor of Medicine - MD Advanced

MD ADVANCED program is a part of the 6- year program. It is a full-time study program, tailor-made for those university students from the USA, Canada, Taiwan or American universities in other countries, who completed the pre-medical programs and obtained at least the BSc degree.

The program is based on requirements which are obligatory for the Polish medical higher education institutions and is adequate to EU and U.S. standards.

Program consists of 2 years (4 semesters) of pre-clinical, basic subjects: anatomy, biochemistry, biophysics, physiology, histology and cell biology, microbiology, pathomorphology, pharmacology and others and 2 years (4 semesters) of clinical subjects such as: internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, psychiatry, radiology, family medicine, neurology, oncology & palliative care, otolaryngology, ophthalmology, infectious diseases and others....
