About the University Klaipėda University today On 5 October 1990, Chairman of the Supreme Council (Reconstituent Seimas) Vytautas Landsbergis signed Decree No. 1-640 on the establishment of Klaipėda University as of 1 January 1991. Klaipėda University started its academic activities with three faculties (those of Marine Engineering, Pedagogy, and Humanities and Natural Sciences) and about 3,000 students.
