On 5 October 1990, Chairman of the Supreme Council (Reconstituent Seimas) Vytautas Landsbergis signed Decree No. 1-640 on the establishment of Klaipėda University as of 1 January 1991. The research conducted in the University is related to the history, culture, and part of East Prussia, Lithuania Minor (Prussian Lithuania), and the Klaipėda Region: it allows one to get to know the historical, linguistic, confessional, musical, and ethnical heritage and enables meaningful enhancement of its continuity opportunities.
