MAN-IMAL Programme

Master France Nantes Angers September 2017

Organised in partnership with: Oniris, the Nantes-Atlantic National College of Veterinary Medicine, Food Science and Engineering The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Nantes The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Angers The Higher Education Institute of Agricultures (Groupe ESA) in Angers Over the past years, it has become clear that along with globalization comes new sanitary and health challenges. Interactions between humans,… [+] animals and food can no longer be treated as compartmentalized phenomena. This is reflected by the health crises that have emerged over the past ten years (Avian influenza, H1N1 influenza, SARS...), as well as by the new food production challenges linked to ensuring health within the context of food sufficiency. The 4 higher education institutions and partners above-mentioned have come together to join forces to create the innovative MAN-IMAL programme, which is a training programme supervised by an international jury of experts. The goal of this programme is to train scientists, doctors, veterinarians, pharmacists and engineers in a unique, international setting, and to prepare our students for the team work necessary to take on international public health challenges. Educational, professional and cultural borders will be crossed so that students can share, better communicate and learn from one another. In doing so, we aim to train the “One World, One Health” specialists needed in our rapidly changing and global environment.
The programme is notable for the multidisciplinary nature of the teaching involved and the use of innovative educational methods. These include crossover case studies, e-Learning, contributions from professionals, ‘hands-on’ laboratory-based training and internships. [-]

The University Institute of Technology, the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education (STAPS), the Faculty of Odontology, the Saints Pères Faculty of Biomedical Sciences were first added to the original René Descartes - Paris V University created in 1971, then in 1976, the Faculty of Law of Malakoff also joined the University. The three faculties of medicine of Paris (Necker, Cochin and Broussais) merged to become the Faculty of Medicine of Paris Descartes (MP5), and hence could offer students decompartmentalised general and specialised teaching, and constitute a federative centre, representative of medicine in Paris. Furthermore, the University was one of the first to implement the Bologna Process (LMD - Degree, Master, Doctorate or 3-5-8) aimed at making the diplomas European. The reform, based on the organisation of the academic teaching in semesters and the capitalisation of credits (ECTS), provides a greater understanding of the students’ skills and makes it easier to study abroad. When it was created, the University chose to be under the patronage of René Descartes (1596-1650) whose scientific approach was truly modern, encompassed all human knowledge and was perfectly adapted to a multidisciplinary university.
