University of Southern Denmark

The University of Southern Denmark has more than 20,000 students and more than 3,200 employees. The university offers teaching and research at 6 campuses situated on Funen, in the south of Jutland, west of Zealand and in the capital city – in Odense, Kolding, Esbjerg, Sønderborg, Slagelse and Copenhagen.

The University of Southern Denmark has created an institution of higher research and education which provides first-class educational opportunities and is cooperation partner for both public and private businesses and organisations for providing qualified labour.

The Organisation

Research, teaching, communication and the transfer of knowledge at the University of Southern Denmark are grouped into five academic faculties:

  • The Faculty of Humanities
  • The Faculty of Science
  • The Faculty of Business and Social Sciences
  • The Faculty of Health Sciences
  • The Faculty of Engineering

Quality Enhancement

The overall goal of the University of Southern Denmark’s quality enhancement system is to facilitate and support the continuous improvements of our educations as stated in the university vision:

Teaching is of the highest quality in terms of both academic level and pedagogical methods. Our degree programmes are revised and upgraded on an ongoing basis to reflect national and global requirements."

The quality enhancement activities are supported by a wide range of tasks each focusing on spotting trends and development indicators and supporting the organisation with up-to-date documentation, statistical statements and accreditation of programmes. Tasks that are centrally coordinated, but carried out for and in joint efforts with faculties, departments and other university units.

Certain groups in our so-called equal oriented society have a relatively short and very disease tormented life. What are the underlying causes of these developments – and what can be done to prevent them? What can be done to improve health and well-being for all?

What will our future bring?

Can lifestyle diseases and a decreasing birth rate put an end to prosperity in European economy? Will global warming bring back malaria to the Nordic countries? And why does it seem that prevention campaigns have such a limited effect?

During the Medical chemistry programme, you will take a range of exciting and relevant courses which lie in the field between medical chemistry, health science, and molecular biology as well as the health sector.The specialization in Medical chemistry aims at employment in the pharmaceutical industry or other pharmaceutically-oriented companies where the focus lies on the development of new medicines. In the programme, you supplement you basic education with a range of chemistry courses like spectroscopy and molecular modeling, as well as a variety of elective courses in for instance organic chemistry which provide experience in medicinal chemistry and development of new pharmaceuticals. You also take some health science classes in pharmacology and physiology. This part of the degree is based at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Pharmacy (FKF).To finish your degree, you must complete a thesis within your specialty of medical chemistry or biopharmacology, where you will typically be assigned to a research team at the Department of Physics, Chemistry, and Pharmacy or the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The thesis can also be completed in collaboration with external partners, for instance in the industry. In the first semester, you will have courses in: Manufacturing Systems and Philosophies, Modularization and platform design, Advanced quality management, Operations Management Methods, as well as a course specific to your choice of specialisation. You can choose to specialise in either Production Technology or Global Supply Chain Development. The second semester will comprise of: Information Technology and Support Technologies, Sustainability, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing Technologies, a project, as well as a course specific to yourchoice of specialization. In the third semester of the programme, you will take courses on Knowledge Management for Engineers and From Innovation to operation.
