About CEL

Our Mission: To develop and deliver innovative, transformative programming for learners of all ages and all backgrounds.

The University of New Brunswick has been providing continuing education programs since 1950. In 2002, UNB established the College of Extended Learning (UNB CEL), to provide continuing education and professional development to adult learners, as well as online programming for individuals within private and public organizations, locally, nationally and globally.

UNB CEL is committed to offering quality, relevant courses and programs, along with customized training solutions, and services that lead to personal and organizational growth and development. Through innovative partnerships, UNB CEL develops programs that contribute to the social, cultural, and economic development needs of Atlantic Canadians and beyond.

Our services cover the whole gamut, from analysis and planning to design and development, on to delivery and administration of lifelong learning opportunities for leisure, career and professional training, degree completion and online for credit programs.

The Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) Certificate Program will prepare individuals for careers as competent assistant behaviour analysts.

Throughout the program, students will learn the foundations of behaviour analysis such as how people learn and unlearn behaviours and skills. Students will also gain skills in the applications of behaviour analysis, such as determining why someone engages in inappropriate behaviour, how to set up a behavior intervention plan, and how to continuously manage behaviour change programs in ethical ways.

Students can apply these evidence-based skills in a variety of ways and settings, such as:

Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorders Classroom management and education In-home care for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities and the elderly Common parenting concerns such as bedtime struggles, “potty” training, and feeding problems Training and supervision of human services staff ... Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Intervention Certificate

This program is designed to provide participants with the essential skills to apply in a variety of roles and support sectors. [+]

Current studies suggest that up to 4% of individuals in Canada have FASD. One of the most critical issues currently facing Canada’s intervention sector is a shortage of skilled labour to fill the growing demand for FAS diagnosis, intervention, and support. This program is designed to provide participants with the essential skills to apply in a variety of roles and support sectors.

Please note: Applicants must have an Early Childhood, Human Service Counsellor, or other related diploma or degree, or the equivalent combination of experience in a related field and applied training.

The Applied Behaviour Analysis Training for Families and Caregivers is suitable for persons who face the day-to-day demands of managing behavioural challenges of individuals of varying ages, with intellectual disabilities, experiencing autism spectrum disorders (ASD), or general behavioural challenges. All courses in this program are based on the principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA).
