Motto: Grandescunt Aucta Labore." The coat of arms consists of two parts, the shield and the scroll. Community colleges enjoyed immediate public acceptance and support. The independent Sault College of Applied Arts & Technology emerged in 1973. Sault College has grown tremendously over the years, adding programs in all disciplines. We now respond to the postsecondary educational needs of more than 4,500 part-time and full-time students each year. OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES Our guiding principles are based on the foundations of invitational education which include the belief that all people matter, are able and responsible, and should be treated accordingly (Purkey & Novak, 2008). We believe that we must put students first and that doing so in a purposeful way creates an invitational college which encourages diversity and inclusion, which in turn strengthens the fabric of our college and student life. As such we demonstrate leadership in eliminating barriers, and implementing and promoting diversity through our academic policies, special initiatives and proactive measures. We are committed to addressing and eliminating harassment and discrimination by working to create a college which practices inclusion in our classrooms, support services and workplace.

About Mission IUHS uses a innovative, low cost solution to transform the learning experience and underlying economics of medical education, with the goal of addressing the global shortage, inequitable distribution, and demographic representation of healthcare professionals, especially in primary care. The mission includes redefining medical education so it is relevant to the needs of society today and in the future. Indeed, we continually ask, “How can we better e… [+] ducate and nurture a new generation of physicians and prepare them to deliver 21st health care in a rapidly changing world?” The University is a driver of social transformation by broadening the pool of future doctors and nurses beyond the narrow demographics of traditional medical schools. Our motto – “in servitium communitatis mundi” means “in service to the global community”. We strive to effect innovation and change in medical education on a global basis. Governance The Board of Directors promotes the sound development of The International University of the Health Sciences within the functions prescribed for it, helping it transform the global medical education industry and aiding it in performing at a high level of excellence in every endeavor. The Board of Directors provides oversight and top level guidance to IUHS. In the exercise of its authority and responsibilities, the Board of Directors provides strategic oversight to provide coordination, focus, advocacy, stewardship and leadership for the diverse IUHS learning community. Licensure Founded in 1997, and with alumni practicing in 22 states, The International University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine is accredited by the Government of the Federation of St. Christopher & Nevis (St. Kitts), and is listed in the World Health Organization’s World Directory of Medical Schools, 7th Edition. The WHO listings are now maintained online by the University of Copenhagen in the Avicenna Directories. Consequently, in the United States, the Educational Commission of Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) will permit IUHS graduates to sit for licensing examinations (USMLE Steps 1 & 2); and the same applies in respect to the licensing process for most other countries (i.e. LMCC exams for Canada, PLAB exam for the United Kingdom (subject to residency requirements), AMC exams for Australia, etc.). Upon completion of the registration process and necessary exams, ECFMG and its international division ECFMG/EICS will both credential IUHS graduates. All the relevant documents and links are fully presented in the virtual library of the IUHS website. Medical graduates seeking licensure in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada or elsewhere must contact the appropriate individual national/state Board of Medical Education and Licensure for information relating to licensure requirements within that jurisdiction. Students wishing licensure in a country other than the United States must contact that country’s medical regulatory body for information relating to its regulations for licensure. Each individual state and country regulates the license to practice medicine in that state or country. While IUHS will endeavor with best efforts to assist our students and graduates, it is ultimately the students’ and graduates’ responsibility to determine and satisfy the licensing requirements. The IUHS Difference A New Model of Medical Education for the 21st Century Understanding that innovation creates sustainable change, IUHS is not a traditional brick and mortar school. The University invests in its students not in large capital-intensive infrastructure. Think of it as medical school 3.0. Active Learning IUHS uses technological innovation and is on the forefront of the new knowledge about how people learn. The University uses “Active Learning” and problem based cases to contextualize medical science learning in clinical settings and increase comprehension and retention. Active Learning puts students and their learning needs at the center of the experience; it stands in contrast to “standard” modes of instruction in which teachers do most of the talking and students are passive. A growing body of research has made it clear that the overall quality of teaching and learning is improved when students have ample opportunities to clarify, question, apply, and consolidate new knowledge. As a result, the role of the lecture has dramatically changed. At IUHS the lecture is not abandoned but instructors create opportunities for students to engage new material, serving as guides to help them understand and apply information. Benefits to Active Learning: Improved critical thinking skills Increased retention and transfer of new information Increased motivation Improved interpersonal skills Use of Technology IUHS believes that multiple modalities are needed for Active Learning: the interaction between professor and students and amongst students should be much more fluid and effective than a traditional fixed-seat amphitheater lecture. At IUHS, the pre-clinical medical science program is delivered using a unique integrated approach that combines core organ-based, pre-clinical basic sciences delivered online with interaction with local associate clinical faculty who provide essential hands on training, and one-to-one interaction with the academic enhancement team. As a result, IUHS students can live and learn in the environment in which they will practice and gain access to the finest faculty throughout the globe. In addition, the University uses a number of technologies throughout its programs to actively engage students in ways that are very different from the all-too-typical lecture class where the lecturer wraps everything up and students scamper off to the next class. The University deploys Blackboard Collaborate as its academic delivery platform to facilitate interactive instruction and group study. The core pre-clinical lectures feature two-way audio, multi-point user video, interactive whiteboard, application and desktop sharing, rich media, breakout rooms, and session recordings (accessed as through Virtual Library on the IUHS student portal). In addition, the University uses DxR Clinician, the leading problem based virtual patient simulator education system as an integrated component of the program. DxR is a web-based, fully interactive patient simulation software that tests and integrates all elements of the patient encounter. This tool enables IUHS to assess each student’s performance with a standardized virtual patient. Lastly, the Virtual Library is a password protected central academic resource for students as well as a platform for study group activity. Low Tuition Fees IUHS tuition fees are approximately $80,000 total for 4 years of medical school . If you plan on going into Family Medicine or any other practice that is not a sub-specialty, the University’s low tuition fees mean that you will not be burdened with large loans after graduation. Diverse Student Body One of the hallmarks of IUHS is its student diversity. The United States is a diverse and multi-cultural society with varied beliefs and customs. IUHS students benefit from an academic environment that is as diverse as the communities in which they will practice. Also, the majority of US medical schools have unofficial age barriers making it difficult, if not impossible, for a ‘mature’ student to gain acceptance. IUHS looks at the overall student in evaluating his or her capacity to be successful in medical school. IUHS encourages students to apply from all disciplines. Applicants who hold degrees such as Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and Doctor of Chiropractic make up a significant percentage of our current student body and they excel in their MD studies at IUHS. Quality of Academic Faculty Because the school is not constrained by physical location, it has the best U.S. professors and international associate faculty who enjoy being part of a global innovative community. IUHS faculty have a worldwide audience of the next generation of medical doctors, establish links and networks with forward-thinking medical professionals, enjoy flexibility to give lectures from virtually anywhere, and are able to conduct research or author and edit other projects. Entrance Requirements IUHS is a global medical school that appreciates the diversity that exists in the backgrounds of our worldwide student body. Applicants following a North American undergraduate education path must have a minimum of 90 credits towards a degree that includes the listed pre-requisites. Applicants from other jurisdictions should have an education profile in keeping with their local entry requirements to medical school. Completed undergraduate degrees are preferable. The IUHS medical degree is awarded as either an MD or MBBS at the choice of the graduate. The University has found that previous medical coursework and clinical experience makes students especially well qualified to pursue their MD degrees. Furthermore IUHS believes students who hold non-science degrees in areas such as liberal arts, engineering and law bring a great value to the medical profession and we welcome these applicants. IUHS offers premedical studies through which students can complete their entrance requirements.
Welcome to St. Thomas University, the small university of big opportunities. We believe smaller is better. Our small size is the reason we are able to give each one of our students a big university experience full of opportunity. Located in Fredericton, New Brunswick, in eastern Canada, St. Thomas is a small, primarily undergraduate university dedicated to excellence in liberal arts education. The Bachelor of Arts is the heart of our academic community, with more than… [+] 30 programs offered in the humanities and social sciences. For more than 100 years, our small, supportive community has been bonded by a shared commitment to the liberal arts and social justice. Our 1,800 Bachelor of Arts students engage in a broad and rigorous education through exceptional offerings in traditional disciplines such as Psychology, English, Economics,Political Science, and Fine Arts, and more unique programs that offer increasing value to our world today—Communications and Public Policy, Criminology, Gerontology, Human Rights, International Relationsand Journalism. Our students participate in experiential learning opportunities—service learning, field work, internships and practicums, travel study, lab work and partnerships with the Harvard Business School, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and American Moot Court Association—that allow them to apply their education in practical settings and develop professional contacts and skills needed to excel after graduation. We believe the liberal arts are the best preparation for a life as a leader, a professional and a global citizen. Our alumni are our proof. They include award-winning lawyers, authors, and journalists, politicians, social workers, Olympic athletes, CEOs, entrepreneurs, humanitarian workers, educators, pilots, doctors, actors, the Speaker of the Senate of Canada, premiers, and more. Our post-degree programs in Education and Social Work complement the Bachelor of Arts community, and offer students outstanding training through course work and practicums. Students Are First University is an exciting time. It’s a time for personal and intellectual growth. It is an opportunity for students to learn more about the world, and about themselves. New interests, new friends and new experiences help take students into the next chapter of their lives. This time can always present challenges, and that’s why we are committed to providing a learning environment second to none, academic and personal support for when it’s needed and opportunities that provide students the experiences they need to reach their academic and professional goals. Classes – Capped at 60 students, every single class is small and intimate. Our average, first-year class size is only 29 students, and upper year classes are even smaller. Classes are discussion and debate based, and professors are able to get to know their students and offer individualized attention. 100% of our full-time faculty have their Ph.D or highest degrees in their fields. Teaching Excellence – 91% of first-year students rate their experience as excellent or good. Our emphasis on teaching, academic rigor, and the pursuit of critical thinking is why we’re ranked among the highest in Canada. Scholarships and Financial Aid – The university dedicates $1.8 million to student financial aid every year. With more than 40 different kinds of scholarships and bursaries available, there are many ways to help offset tuition costs and rewarding academic merit and leadership. Support – Our Student Services Department supports students every step of the way. Offering resources for academic support, international-student advising, career planning, stress management, counseling, and more, students have a team of people to help them through their time at university. Opportunities – A university degree is about more than just attending class. Our students attend national conferences, study abroad, publish their research and work on professional research with professors. Our community of students is unique and united, and shares a similar passion to leave their mark on the world while helping others in the process. We encourage everyone at St. Thomas to be their true selves, and express their ideas openly and freely, in a safe and accepting place. You will not be taught what to think, but how to think independently and from different perspectives. However you plan to use your education from St. Thomas, it all starts with the freedom to think for yourself.

To accomplish these ends, the University is a community of scholars whose primary tasks are to teach and to learn, to engage in scholarship and research, and to offer service for the benefit of our Island and beyond. The University of Prince Edward Island is a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada, the International Association of Universities, and the Association of Atlantic Universities. Vision and Future Directions For four months in early 2012, UPEI's campus and community were engaged in the UPEI Reflections and Future Directions visioning exercise. With the valued input of more than 200 individuals, this initiative has been successful in determining our University’s core strengths and realizing our vision for the future. As we move forward with strategic planning initiatives to support the UPEI Vision Document, we will continue to keep our campus and community informed through progress updates.

They are an integral part of our health care system. Health Care Assistants help health care professionals to care for patients. They may work in a hospital environment alongside doctors and nurses or in the home of a patient. Health Care Assistants are responsible for assisting qualified health care professionals in caring for patients, who may be being treated in hospital or at home. The job can be extremely varied, since the health care professionals who require the services of a Health Care Assistant range from nurses to doctors, and from radiologists to midwives. The job of a Health Care Assistant overlaps with that of a nurse. However, Health Care Assistants are not allowed to administer medication or perform complex nursing procedures. They are responsible for performing health/medical support tasks. They also take regular observations and ensure that patients are constantly kept as comfortable as possible. Health Care Assistants are also able to help out during emergency situations, for instance during emergency resuscitation's. If a patient dies, Health Care Assistants are responsible for washing and preparing the body prior to the visit of relatives and transportation to the morgue. While Health Care Assistants are responsible for recording the observations of patients throughout the day, they do not usually have much paperwork to do. Paperwork is usually the responsibility of the nurse. For this reason, Health Care Assistants will have relatively more contact with patients and the relatives of patients. WHY Pacific Coast? Health Care is ALL we do. The curriculum design, delivery and outcomes is the core focus of our entire staff from Instructors to Administrators to Senior Management meaning our students obtain a job/career in their chosen field. All of our instructors are Registered Nurses currently working in the industry with years of practical and teaching experience that are passionate about their profession and have a sincere desire to share their knowledge. The Story of CMU Canadian Mennonite University is the result of the amalgamation of three colleges: Mennonite Brethren Bible College/Concord College (est. 1944); Canadian Mennonite Bible College (est. 1947); and Menno Simons College (est. 1989). The origins of CMU go back to the early 1990s when people from the business community and from four Mennonite colleges in Manitoba—CMBC, Concord College, Steinbach Bible College and Menno Simons College—met to talk about int… [+] er-Mennonite co-operation in higher education. This led to formal discussions among the colleges, beginning in 1995. Steinbach Bible College withdrew from the process in 1996. In August, 1998, the government of Manitoba proclaimed the charter for the creation of a university-level, degree-granting federation of Mennonite colleges. On November 18, 1998, the three colleges signed a Memorandum of Agreement, signifying final approval for the creation of the federation. On May 4th, 1999, the agreement to purchase 500 Shaftesbury was concluded. The Mennonite College Federation began offering its new, jointly sponsored academic programs in September, 1999. By September, 2000, CMBC and Concord College located together on a common campus at 500/600 Shaftesbury Boulevard. (Menno Simons College remained in downtown Winnipeg as CMU’s campus at the University of Winnipeg.) In October, 2008, CMU became a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (now known as Universities Canada). Each of the founding colleges has its own story. Yet, from the beginning, the individual stories have often intersected and are now part of a common story—a story of how God has led them to work together on a common educational mission called CMU. Mission Statement CMU is an innovative Christian university, rooted in the Anabaptist Mennonite tradition, moved and transformed by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. Through teaching, research and service CMU inspires and equips women and men for lives of service, leadership and reconciliation in church and society. CMU's mission statement, like that of any organization, is like a densely packed coil with the potential and the obligation to spring to life in a vibrant array of programs and projects, conversations and commitments. CMU's mission statement is upfront and out there in its particularity. Faithfulness to the story of God's creating and transforming work through Jesus Christ is the heartbeat, the mindfulness and the motivating impulse for the service, leadership and reconciliation through which CMU participates in church and society. At CMU, reconciliation is academic work with all sorts of social, personal, theological, interpersonal, artistic, physical, and environmental dimensions—to name a few. Reconciliation, like education, is always about "building understandings." And "building understandings" is always about engaging in both knowledge and relationships, ways of seeing, engaging and sharing in a world that is wondrous, that is troubled, and that ever needs our best care and imagination. The phrase, "rooted in the Anabaptist Mennonite tradition" is perhaps best approached through the testimony of CMU students. What catches on in their minds and theirs hearts at once is the coherence and consistency between what the professors teach in class and how these "teachers of life" go about everyday living. Strong convictions towards reconciliation and integrity in life and faith were at the forefront of the emergence of Anabaptists in the sixteenth century. The integration of action and confession continue to be vital today, as do practices of community discernment in apprehending what is true. These convictions propose a bold vulnerability and a dynamic freedom, and these form deeply and only through relationships of trust. It is within relationships of trust and community discernment that CMU understands itself to be a church-related university, providing a forum for ongoing dialogue regarding how together we are called to speak grace and enact reconciliation in church, in society and in the world as we know it. From the flow of this mission, CMU has established four commitments that characterize its work across all of its programs and activities: Educating for Peace and Justice A commitment to educating for peace and justice colours all of our programs and our institutional life as a whole and is explicitly represented in some signature programs and in the work of several of our institutes (e.g., Canadian School of Peacebuilding). Learning through Thinking and Doing Academic analysis is complemented by experiential learning in a manner that shapes both thinking and living, particularly through our practica, Outtatown, co-op, and internship programs. Generous Hospitality... Radical Dialogue CMU welcomes all as it fosters dialogue across religious, economic, social, political, ethnic, national, and cultural chasms that divide humanity, within North America and internationally. Modelling Invitational Community CMU tempers the individualism of our time by modelling and nurturing invitational communities, which are diverse yet learn together, in which people support each other, and which foster compassion and represent hope to those in them and beyond.

Established in 1827, the University of Toronto has one of the strongest research and teaching faculties in North America, presenting top students at all levels with an intellectual environment unmatched in depth and breadth on any other Canadian campus. Mission The University of Toronto is committed to being an internationally significant research university, with undergraduate, graduate and professional programs of excellent quality. Purpose of the University The… [+] University of Toronto is dedicated to fostering an academic community in which the learning and scholarship of every member may flourish, with vigilant protection for individual human rights, and a resolute commitment to the principles of equal opportunity, equity and justice. Within the unique university context, the most crucial of all human rights are the rights of freedom of speech, academic freedom, and freedom of research. And we affirm that these rights are meaningless unless they entail the right to raise deeply disturbing questions and provocative challenges to the cherished beliefs of society at large and of the university itself. It is this human right to radical, critical teaching and research with which the University has a duty above all to be concerned; for there is no one else, no other institution and no other office, in our modern liberal democracy, which is the custodian of this most precious and vulnerable right of the liberated human spirit. Objectives of the University of Toronto The University of Toronto is determined to build on its past achievements and so enhance its research and teaching. The University anticipates that it will remain a large university. It will continue to exploit the advantages of size by encouraging scholarship in a wide range of disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, sciences and the professions. It will continue to value its inheritance of colleges and federated universities that give many students an institutional home within the large University. It will strive to make its campuses attractive settings for scholarly activity. Research The University will continue to promote high quality research. The University is committed to: Providing an environment conducive to research; Emphasizing research, publication and related professional contributions in defining the career expectations of professorial staff; Ensuring that faculties and schools engaged in undergraduate teaching also engage in graduate teaching and research; Maintaining a capacity to respond selectively to new fields of research as they emerge; Requiring national and international peer assessment of the quality of its programs; Collaborating with other universities, industry, business, the professions, public sector institutions and governments, where appropriate to research objectives; Providing information, library and research services of the highest international standards. Teaching The University will strive to ensure that its graduates are educated in the broadest sense of the term, with the ability to think clearly, judge objectively, and contribute constructively to society. The University wishes to increase its ability to attract students from elsewhere in Canada and abroad, in the belief that while these students gain an education their presence will enrich the experience of students from the local community. In all its teaching programs, the University is committed to: Achieving the highest academic standards; Attracting students whose abilities and aspirations match the programs available; Responding to the needs of a diverse student population; Providing the best possible facilities, libraries and teaching aids; Insisting on the importance of teaching in the career expectations of the professorial staff, recognizing excellence in teaching and providing opportunities to improve teaching; Ensuring that professorial staff normally teach both graduate and undergraduate students; Continuing to attract students from other provinces of Canada and from abroad; 8 Enriching the experience of students by cooperating with and assisting them in the realization of their educational goals especially as these involve their life-long learning and career development, their physical and emotional growth and well-being, their needs, including special or temporary ones, and their cultural and recreational activities.
