About the University

Southern Cross University is a vibrant, contemporary Australian university with beautiful campuses at the Gold Coast, Lismore and Coffs Harbour, and branch campuses in Sydney and Melbourne.The University also operates The Hotel School Sydney and The Hotel School Melbourne in partnership with Mulpha Australia.

We welcome students from more than 60 countries throughout the world and offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses in an inspiring and supportive learning environment. Southern Cross University is among Times Higher Education 150 world's best young universities for 2016. The rankings are based on the THE World University Rankings - teaching, research, citations, international outlook and industry income.

In the 2015 Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) 2015 national report, SCU achieved outstanding ratings of 'at world standard' or above in 24 research fields. In nine research fields SCU was evaluated at the highest possible classification of 'well above world standard'. This was achieved in the fields of Geochemistry, Oceanography, Environmental Science and Management, Zoology, Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, Crop and Pasture Production, Forestry Sciences, Nursing, Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

For the third consecutive year, SCU was been ranked number one in Australia for international student support by the International Student Barometer 2015 survey, and ranked number two in Australia for overall learning experience.

The Graduate Certificate of Australian Nursing (EPIQ - Education Program for Internationally Qualified Nurses) is designed for internationally qualified registered nurses who wish to practise as a registered nurse in Australia. This course is a program of academic and clinical studies that prepares candidates to gain registration within Australia through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Career opportunities The course provides graduates with the opportunity to engage in a broad spectrum of clinical nursing specialties. Professional recognition This course is fully accredited with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and provides the necessary qualification for graduates to be eligible to become a Registered Nurse in Australia through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Professional placement Compulsory supervised workplace experiences reflect the current registered nurse standards for practice, major health priorities and contemporary nursing practices. The eight-week placement enables candidates to consolidate theoretical learning and build upon their professional practice. Professional experience placements require students to fulfil certain prerequisites prior to attending placement (e.g. a working with children check and National Police Certificate).
