Introduction
- Faculty of Physics, Mathematics and Optometry.
- Awards: Bachelor of Natural Sciences in Optometry.
- Amount of credits: 120 credit points or 180 ECTS.
- Accreditation: the programme is accredited (to be revised in 2022).
- Duration of studies: full-time (3 years), part-time* (4 years).
*Part-time studies available only for EU/EEA citizens.
Programme overview
This programme is based on studies of natural sciences, biology, medicine and basic principles of primary eye care service. Bachelor's programme is the first step in the professional optometrist education scheme in Latvia. The program offers extensive profile studies of natural sciences including organic chemistry, biology, calculus, physics for natural sciences, optics, basics of human anatomy, general physiology, ophthalmic optics, microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology of the eye, physiology of vision, optometric instruments, refractive defects, binocular vision and other.

The program offers extensive profile studies of natural sciences including organic chemistry, biology, calculus, physics for natural sciences, optics, basics of human anatomy, general physiology, ophthalmic optics, microbiology, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology of the eye, physiology of vision, optometric instruments, refractive defects, binocular vision and other.

Scholarships and Funding
- EUR 500 per month - citizens from these countries are eligible to apply for a Latvian state scholarship.
- Temporary students’ residence permit holders can work 20 hours per week.
Career Opportunities
This programme prepares competitive graduates for Latvian and European labor markets. Graduates work as optometrist’s assistants in optics and clinics. The skills acquired during the study practice also allows to become an optician or a visual ergonomic consultant.
