The University of Szeged (SZTE), with a history dating back to 1581, is located in the sunniest city of Hungary, Europe. As one of the largest research universities in Hungary, it is a powerhouse of education, science, and R&D&I. The university offers more than 80 international programs for foreign students. The University of Szeged has been home to outstanding professors, including Nobel Prize laureates Albert Szent-Györgyi (1937), who first isolated Vitamin C, and Katalin Karikó (2023), a pioneer of the groundbreaking mRNA-based vaccine technology. The University of Szeged holds excellent positions in international rankings. In 2024, according to ARWU, it was recognized as the top university in Hungary and placed 401–500 globally. International students make up nearly 20% of the student body, with a 10:1 student-faculty ratio, contributing to a rich learning environment and strong academic achievement. The university maintains extensive international partnerships through programs such as Erasmus+, CEEPUS, EUGLOH, WHO, Coursera, and many others.

The University of Szeged is one of the largest universities in Hungary, and the efforts of its nearly 24,000 students and close to 8,000 employees at the 12 university faculties help make the institution the regional center of knowledge in Hungary and Central Europe.

The number of the international students is constantly increasing, and it reaches 20% of the student body. A mentor system assists them to settle down in Szeged and find their way in the University.

The 12:1 student-faculty ratio is a key to success in obtaining valuable knowledge and academic qualifications and it is a highly important task to help our students make use of their knowledge in the most effective way.

Application Step by Step

1. Choose your programme and read the programme description on our website. Each descriptions includes a direct link to the online application platform.

2. Click on Apply Now button in the programme description and sign up for the online application platform.

3. Fill in the online application form, upload the necessary documents and make sure to pay the application fee.

4. Check your mailbox regularly. The system will remind you to complete the tasks.

What happens after?
5. After you have submitted your application, your documents are going to be evaluated and you may be invited to take an entrance exam.

6. Pay the entrance exam fee, if applicable, and do your best at the exam.

7. If you are accepted, you will receive our Admission Letter through the system including the tuition fee.

8. Once the tuition fee is credited, your place is reserved at SZTE.
9. In case you need a visa, make sure to arrange an appointment at the Hungarian Consulate or Embassy and present your Admission Letter and the proof of payment of the tuition fee (in most of the cases of SZTE programmes you are asked to pay the first two semesters (one year).
