Introduction
Tufts’ Post-baccalaureate Premedical Program is designed for students who already have an undergraduate degree and need to complete prerequisite coursework to apply to health professions graduate schools. It is designed for “career changers” and for students who need to complete all or most of their prerequisites for graduate school.
The program offers a flexible curriculum, which allows you to fulfil a variety of prerequisite needs for career paths in the health sciences, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine.
As a student in the program, you’ll work with a health professional advisor to develop an individualized program of study. The broad variety of courses available at Tufts allows you to meet your prerequisite requirements while also taking courses in your areas of interest.
Beyond completing your course requirements, the program will prepare you for the process of applying to graduate school and you’ll learn strategies that will set you up for success as a future health professions graduate student. You’ll have access to development workshops specifically designed for Post-bacc Premed students with topics such as exploring the graduate school application process, studying for standardized tests, and gaining clinical experience. You will also be integrated into the campus community and have access to many of the resources and programs available to Tufts undergraduates.
After completing your prerequisite courses, the Post-baccalaureate Premedical Program, in conjunction with the Professional Schools Application Program, will prepare a committee letter of recommendation for your application to graduate school. Over the past ten years, graduates of our program have gone on to more than 50 different health professions schools across the country.

Common Timelines
Students admitted to the program generally attend Tufts for 18-24 months and take two courses per semester. The actual time enrolled in the program varies from one student to the next, depending on academic background and personal circumstances. Occasionally, students need to drop one course for financial, health, or other reasons. Also occasionally, a student sees that they are capable of doing well in three laboratory science courses in a single semester (usually only after the student has studied at Tufts first and realized the rigour of the courses).
