Certificate in Optometry Business Management

In a first-of-its-kind agreement, the SUNY College of Optometry and SUNY Empire State College, a statewide Institution that focuses on nontraditional teaching and learning, has signed an agreement to develop and deliver an advanced graduate certificate in optometry business management.

The development of this new joint program responds to an increased interest from optometry students in recent years for an advanced business education that will complement their clinical training and help them prepare for the demands of managing organizations or working with corporations and government agencies on healthcare-related issues.

Qualified students working toward their OD degree may apply for the Advanced Graduate Certificate in Optometry Business Management. The certificate is offered jointly by the College and SUNY Empire State College. Upon completion, it applies to an MBA in Healthcare Leadership also offered by Empire State. Students may enter the program in the summer between their first and second year of the OD Program. The certificate is a six-course, 18 credit program. Two courses are part of the optometry curriculum, and four are offered online by Empire State College.
