We’ve designed our MSc Adult Nursing (Pre-registration) course around the core values of the NHS constitution so that you understand what’s required in caring for and supporting vulnerable adults.
The MSc Adult Nursing (Pre-registration) is an accelerated postgraduate course developed for those who have already graduated with an undergraduate degree. You'll gain the experience and skills required to practice as an adult nurse in two years, rather than the traditional three-year route.

Curriculum
Course information
On this two-year full-time course, you'll spend 42 weeks per year at university or on placement/simulation, with 10 10-week holidays. This is to ensure you’re able to complete the required hours set by the NMC to be able to register at the end of your two years.
Your time will be split equally between practical and theory, with half of your time in clinical/simulation practice which includes placements in a variety of settings.
We deliver the course in blocks of teaching weeks where you’ll spend full weeks either learning theory or out in practice/simulation. Your first placement generally starts in March or April after your first theory block in which you will have completed all the mandatory training and preparation sessions.
Year 1
In your first year, you'll explore topics such as person-centred nursing, your responsibilities as a nurse, and local and global health issues. At the beginning of the course, you’ll learn essential practical skills, from taking blood pressure to injection techniques.
You’ll learn the fundamental communication skills required when working with and delivering care to diverse populations. You’ll use self-awareness and skills of reflective practice to inform the development of emotional intelligence and resilience.

Year 2
In your second year, you'll build upon the foundational knowledge and skills gained in your first year. You’ll look at leading and improving care in contemporary healthcare systems while recognising the fundamental challenges in improving care for patients, families and caregivers. The Fieldcraft Skills unit aims to support you be able to becoming a safe and competent practitioner in accordance with professional and regulatory standards.

Career prospects
Once you’re a registered nurse, you might start your career at one of our partner NHS trusts. Or, you might choose to work in the private or voluntary sectors.
Although many of our graduates begin their careers as staff nurses in NHS hospitals in the UK, you could develop your nursing career in the Armed Forces, prisons, hospices, GP surgeries, care homes or schools.
