The Academic Affairs Division coordinates the family medicine clerkships within the College of Human Medicine. Students completing courses offered by the Department of Family Medicine report high levels of satisfaction. Many students who choose to specialize in Family Medicine say that they made their career choice as a result of their experiences in the Family Medicine Clerkship. Electives are available that allow students to experience many aspects of Family Medicine, including outpatient, inpatient, geriatrics, research, rural practice, sports medicine, and palliative care.

The division of hematology and oncology specializes in the area of cancer therapeutics, thrombosis and bleeding disorders, and the clinical care of patients with hematologic and oncologic disorders. the division has active clinical, research, and teaching programs. Hematology and oncology patients are seen at the msu breslin cancer center. this busy clinic provides care to thousands of patients each year. physicians also provide care to inpatients, and consultation in their area of expertise. interdisciplinary cancer clinics are used to create a care team and cancer treatment plan that involves the patient, oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, and other experts.
