Introduction
The AAS in nursing curriculum prepares graduates to assume beginning staff nurse positions in hospitals, nursing homes, and other health-related institutions. Student experiences include hands-on laboratory, classroom, and clinical facility rotations. This curriculum provides the foundation for a baccalaureate degree in nursing.
The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in the nursing program is offered on Fort Leonard Wood's military base. The AAS nursing program has a part-time evening curriculum designed to meet the community's local needs and the educational needs of active-duty military personnel and their dependents. The AAS nursing program accepts 40 applicants each fall semester. Licensed practical nurses (LPNs) may be eligible for advanced standing. Upon completing the AAS nursing program, students can apply to take the National Council Licensing Examination for Registered Nurses. Satisfactory performance on this examination will qualify the student for licensure as a registered nurse. However, graduation from the AAS in the nursing program does not guarantee eligibility to take the licensure exam. The Missouri State Board of Nursing approved the AAS nursing program and accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
