Our History

The Founding Dean of the University, Paul Cherian, MD, developed an innovative curriculum, aimed at developing students’ knowledge of the basic sciences as well as enhancing their problem-solving skills through a problem-based learning curriculum. He led the founding faculty in delivering a student-centered curriculum which continues to be the cornerstone of the University’s success.

Accreditations and Credentials

IAU is chartered and accredited by the Government of Saint Lucia as a comprehensive university with the authority to confer the Doctor of Medicine degree.

Our Partnership with St. Lucia

IAU is proud to be able to call this island home. IAU received its charter and approval from the government of Saint Lucia in 2003. In addition, The Department of Education and the Department of Health of Saint Lucia approved the eligibility of IAU College of Medicine graduates to practice medicine in Saint Lucia.

In order to process any application the following documents must be submitted to the International American University College of Medicine Office of Admissions, located in Dallas, TX.

Required Supporting Documents:

  • Two Passport size photographs
  • Personal Statement
  • Letters of Recommendation (minimum 2)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Official Transcripts
  • MCAT Score (recommended but not required)

Additional Supporting Documents for PREMED Applicants:

U.S. Applicants requirements:

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) with a strong GPA in Science

  • SAT Scores (Applicants who have appeared for the SAT or Advanced Placement (AP) exams can request to submit scores to the Office of Admissions using the institutional SAT identification number for the College Board: 4375

International Applicants requirements:

  • Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Ordinary Levels (or equivalent) for Mathematics, Science, Biology, Chemistry, English and at least one other Subject (CARICOM Applicants)

  • Matriculation examinations such as the South African or Australian Examination (or the equivalent) with strong science grades

  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma

  • Minimum of 3 General Certificate of Education (GCE)advanced level examinations (or the equivalent) with strong science grades

Other Requirements only applicable if English not the principal language:

  • TOEFL Scores of a minimum 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based), or 100 (internet-based) TOEFL Institution identification number is: 8625

  • ILETS Score of 6.5 (Only one is required either TOEFL or ILETS)

Additional Supporting Documents for TRANSFER Applicants:

  • Official transcript(s) from previous medical school(s)

  • Official USMLE transcripts (if attempted)

  • Score reports for all previous CBSE attempts (if attempted)

Scholarships and Grants

International American University offers qualified students a variety of scholarship opportunities that reward academic excellence and community and volunteer service. Academic scholarships are awarded to new, incoming students only and are credited to Basic Science Terms only. Scholarships are competitive and funds are limited so eligible students are encouraged to apply as early as possible.

Please note that there is no guarantee that you will be awarded a scholarship and the number of scholarships awarded per semester may vary. All scholarship decisions are final and are not open to appeal. Please contact the university for any questions regarding scholarships.

Immigration Documents

United States and Canadian citizens are not required to have a visa prior to entering Saint Lucia. All other nationals as well as Green Card holders will be required to obtain a visa before arrival in Saint Lucia. The University assists students in processing visas through the Immigration office in Saint Lucia. All visa paperwork is due to the Office of Admissions. Planning as quickly as possible in order for visas to be processed in a timely manner. Students requiring a visa are responsible for contacting the Office of Admissions to begin the visa application process immediately after acceptance into the University. Students flying through the UK or Europe may need a Transit Visa and should contact the Office of Admissions immediately. The Transit Visa application process can be rather lengthy and complicated and can take up to two months. It is the student’s responsibility to apply for this visa before travelling to Saint Lucia.
