    Pre-Med Programs in Medicine

Pre-med is a program of pre-medical studies. A pre-medicine path can typically be pursued under any major as long as certain course requirements are met. It is a coursework guideline that students interested in pursuing medicine should follow.

What are pre-med in medicine? Pre-medical course requirements typically include general biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry and general physics. Some schools label their combined pre-medical and medical degree program pre-med in medicine. It is usually a five-year program designed for students outside of the United States. It is typically offered as an accelerated program. Students may attend an undergraduate university for two to three years before transferring to a medical school where they finish their undergraduate degree while concurrently earning their MD.

Many graduates may find they are especially adept at time management, problem-solving and teamwork after completing this program. These skills may help students secure a well-paying job in the medical field, promotions or a higher standard of living.

Pre-med in medicine usually has a certain set of course requirements across programs but may otherwise vary from one program to the next. This along with other influences have an impact on the overall price of earning such a degree. Students can contact the admissions office for specific pricing information.

Most students with an undergraduate pre-med degree in medicine choose to apply to medical school to train to be a surgeon or physician.
