Learn to take care of your physical and mental health postpartum and feel supported postpartum.

Explore postpartum health problems and find out when to seek help

After giving birth, some women have difficulty accessing reliable and appropriate health information and resources. In this course, you will find tips and strategies on how to prioritize your postpartum care and discover how women can support each other during this time.

Common challenges regarding physical and mental health after childbirth will be addressed, and you will find strategies for taking care of yourself and recommendations for when to seek professional medical care. What topics will you encounter?

  • Week 1: Maternal Health
    Myths and misconceptions about maternal health are discussed. It differentiates between what is common and what is normal, and tips are given on how to prioritize your health postpartum.
  • Week 2: Physical Health
    What is urinary and anal incontinence will be explained, and pelvic floor muscle training techniques will be given.
  • Week 3: Mental Health
    Some concepts such as postpartum anxiety and depression are explained, and strategies will be given to make your social support network visible.
  • Week 4: Sexual Health and Relationships
    Aspects of sexual health related to sexuality after childbirth, the identification of sexual health problems or the detection of situations of gender violence are discussed.

Marta is a biologist and physiotherapist.

She is currently a professor in the nursing degree and researcher in the field of sexual and reproductive health.



Cinny cusack

Cinny has worked in Women's Health for over 25 years and is the Manager of Physical Therapy at Rotunda Hospital. He lectures regularly at the graduate level and has participated in published research.


Deirdre Daly

I am an Assistant Professor at Midwifery, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Trinity College Dublin. I've worked as a midwife, teacher midwife, and now a maternal health researcher my entire life and I love it.

Susan hannon

Susan Hannon is a research assistant, project manager and now a PhD student in the MAMMI study at Trinity College Dublin, with research interests in the area of maternal mental health and resilience.

Ramon Escuriet

Commissioner of Health for Sexual and Reproductive Health of the Catalan Health Service. Professor at the Blanquerna-URL Faculty of Health Sciences.



Cristina Martinez
