The present socio-demographical changes in European countries, particularly aging and decreasing birth rates, have been target of concern by the different involved responsible entities aiming at implement action strategies which can effectively answer these new societal challenges. Living healthily and autonomously as long as possible is, thus, a challenge to social responsibility with significant repercussions regarding its development.
The course of Postgraduate Specialization in Rehabilitation Nursing aims to train nurses to help individuals to reorganize their health project in accordance with the needs arising from transition experiences, accidental or predictable. It also aims to equip nurses with resources to efficiently answer health challenges. This course focuses in the prevention of sequelæ resulting from health and/or treatment processes and in the functional adjustments to deficits and/or life processes, namely aging and chronical disease, aiming at promoting independence at basic and instrumental activities of daily life, improving functions, limiting incapacity, preserving self-esteem and life quality throughout the life cycle, family, groups and community.
Thus, this course contributes to the scientific, technical, human and cultural development of the future rehabilitation specialist nurse, enabling him/her to general nursing caregiving and, specifically, specialized nurse caregiving in the area, based on decision-making in rehabilitation nursing.
The decision-making complexity refers to the rehabilitation of people with chronic, traumatic, with disability and immobility situation, throughout the life cycle; ability to apply specialist knowledge, understanding and problem-solving in complex situations related to the area of rehabilitation nursing specialty, the person, family and community; integration of knowledge to handle complex situations of rehabilitation nursing specialty area. It also implies the development of diagnostic, therapeutic and ethical judgments; ability to reflect on the implications and responsibilities resulting from the solutions adopted.
Prerequisites: To hold a bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent
