Pharmacy Technicians play an important role in helping people live healthier, happier, and more productive lives.

American National University’s pharmacy technician diploma program¹ is designed to provide you with knowledge, laboratory skills, and field experience to prepare you for entry-level a position as a pharmacy technician.

Upon completing the pharmacy technician diploma program you will be prepared to sit for the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) exam offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

In addition to serving as a strong foundation for pursuing an associate’s degree in medical assisting, this diploma program is designed to give you the skills and techniques needed for entry-level employment in a pharmacy at a retail or healthcare facility as a pharmacy technician or pharmacy aide.

Your Learning Experience

American National University’s pharmacy technician diploma program covers a wide range of topics you will need to be successful. You will learn things like pharmacy law, basic chemistry, pharmacy procedures, and medical terminology. You will also gain valuable experience with basic computer operations such as data entry that is vital to maintaining patient records. Emphasis will be placed on:

  • Understanding drugs and their applications.
  • Learning how to assist the pharmacist in prescription preparation and administration.
  • The basics for updating patient profiles, labeling pharmaceutical products, managing inventory, and recognizing trade and generic drug names.
  • Learning how to maintain patient records and preparing insurance claims.

*All students wishing to enroll in the Pharmacy Technician program will be required to pass a background check prior to the start of the program.

Studies are combined with an externship placement in a retail pharmacy or healthcare setting to reinforce the classroom and laboratory learning experiences.

Upon completing the pharmacy technician diploma program you will be prepared to sit for the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) exam offered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
