Students will deepen their understanding of physical activity measurement issues while being introduced to population-level study. The program focuses on the relationship between physical activity and certain diseases and their states. Students are expected to take physiology courses as well as statistical courses to help understand the affects that physical activity can have on a population.
Taking this type of coursework is beneficial because it prepares you for advanced employment or research. You will be able to predict health issues in areas that have little physical activity. This type of degree prepares students for a wide array of positions.
The cost of a PhD in Physical Therapy will vary depending on the school that you want to attend. The cost can also change depending on if you take courses online, on campus or do a combination, so always contact your school of choice for specific cost information.

Alabama State University offers the Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) degree. This three-year degree prepares graduates as entry-level physical therapists eligible to sit for the National Physical Therapy Exam administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. Licensure is necessary to practice physical therapy. “Physical Therapy is a dynamic profession with an established theoretical base and widespread clinical applications in the preservation, development, and restoration of optimal physical function. Every day, physical therapists in the United States help approximately 1 million people alleviate pain; prevent the onset and progression of impairment, functional limitation, disability, or changes in physical function and health status resulting from injury, disease, or other causes; and restore, maintain and promote overall fitness and optimum quality of life as related to movement and health. As essential participants in the healthcare delivery system, physical therapists assume leadership roles in rehabilitation services, prevention, and health maintenance programs, and professional and community or4ganizations. They also play important roles in developing healthcare policy and appropriate standards for the various elements of physical therapist practice to ensure availability, accessibility, and excellence in the delivery of physical therapy services.” – Guide to Physical Therapist Practice, July 1999...

The Ph.D. in Physical Therapy at the University of Central Arkansas is designed to prepare students to become scholars and leaders. The scholar not only discovers, integrates, and applies knowledge but also communicates and disseminates it. The Ph.D. graduate has the ability to make significant contributions to scholarship in physical therapy. Students in a Ph.D. program are required to grasp complex intellectual issues in addition to the highly technical standards necessary for research and scholarship. The UCA Department of Physical Therapy Research Page provides information regarding current projects and faculty interests.
