Best 33 PhDs in Medical Studies 2019

A PhD in Medicine is a postgraduate degree that you can receive after a master’s or graduate degree. Graduate students can apply for the PhD program at a medical school and work toward their final goal of becoming a medical doctor.

What is a PhD in Medicine? This degree allows graduate students to become a doctor and work toward their specialty. With a Master in Medicine, medical students can intern at hospitals and work under the supervision of physicians. However, only people with the doctorate degree can confirm diagnosis and prescribe medication. Once a PhD is earned, the doctor can work toward becoming a resident, where he or she can do hospital rotations and decide which field of medicine they want to focus on.

Receiving your PhD in Medicine is the difference between almost being a doctor and being a doctor. Once you receive your PhD, you can go on to work in a teaching hospital to decide which type of medical doctor you want to be. You can apply for a surgical residency to become a surgeon, or go on to be a diagnostic physician, pediatrician, or anything else that you love.

The cost of receiving your PhD in Medicine depends on the medical school that you want to attend. You can talk to the admissions office at different medical schools to find out the cost of the program.

Once you obtain your PhD in Medicine, many doors will open for you. If you want to become a surgeon, you can join a surgical internship at a hospital. You can get a job at a children’s hospital and learn about becoming a pediatrician. You can intern in a cancer center to become an oncologist, become a cardiologist, podiatrist, or more. With your PhD, the options are nearly endless. Whichever kind of doctor you want to be, you can be.

To receive your PhD in Medicine online, find out which classes you can take from home. Search for your program below and contact directly the admission office of the school of your choice by filling in the lead form.

Ph.D. in Molecular Medicine

Degree: Doctorate Philosophy (Ph.D.)Standard period of study: 6 semestersStarting semester: Winter and summer semesterAdmission: Limited admission (application to faculty)Language skills: English (proof required)

This programme aims at an in-depth education in the translation of basic knowledge within molecular biosciences into applications regarding the prevention, diagnostics, and therapy of human diseases. The Faculty of Medicine has a long tradition and is further expanding its programmes towards such research goals. The establishment of a Ph.D. programme in molecular medicine represents only the most recent effort of this kind. Established research focuses are represented by clinical and basic neurosciences, as well as research on the molecular basis of cardiovascular diseases. In addition, current efforts focus on cancer research, in particular, the molecular regulatory processes pertaining to cancer as well as development and stem cell biology. Other major research topics include biochemistry, in particular, intracellular compartmentalization and protein modifications, as well as infectious diseases and immunology. Cutting edge technology platforms are exemplified by facilities for transcriptome and proteome analysis; animal models including Drosophila, Xenopus, and rodents; life confocal microscopy; high content screening of cell morphology by automated microscopy and fluorescence activated cell sorting; and in vivo imaging. The programme provides Ph.D. students with teaching experience in these disciplines and technologies. The candidates are expected to carry out a high-profile research project in one of the aforementioned disciplines, within a 3-year period of time. They will be supported by stringent supervision, thesis committees, methods courses and informal counseling.Overall, the programme aims to... [-]

Ph.D. in Emerging Infectious Diseases (EIDIS)

Leibniz Graduate School for Emerging Infectious Diseases (EIDIS)

The constantly increasing transmission of novel pathogens into the human population poses a central challenge to future research into infectious diseases. The timely development of preventive and therapeutic approaches is essential to prevent pandemics with potentially devastating medical consequences.

The research into novel pathogens requires particular expertise in the molecular, cellular and organismic analysis of infectious processes as well as access to laboratories which provide a maximum level of biocontainment.

The goal of the Leibniz Graduate School for Emerging Infectious Diseases (EIDIS) is to provide young scientists with an excellent training in the area of novel pathogens and to improve the cooperation between the laboratories working in this field, thereby enabling research to adequately meet future challenges.... Postgraduate study in Physiology and Pathophysiology is focused on the investigation of functions of organs and organ systems during responses and adaptations to changes in the external and internal environments in health and disease. The transition from studies of indirect manifestations of certain functions to their own functional and regulatory mechanisms at the cellular and molecular levels predominates. The acquired knowledge is fundamental for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of human diseases.
