Top 42 PhD Programs in Biomedical Studies 2019

A Ph.D. can be earned in about four years of schooling, provided students are able to attend full-time. This degree can also signify that students have attained important achievements in the understanding and developments within their specific field.

What is a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science? This program works to help students further understand and uncover new research regarding biomedical science in many different arenas, and to further the knowledge of biomedical sciences around the world. Students can choose to focus their Ph.D. in many different biomedical science fields, such as biochemistry, microbiology and immunology, neuroscience, pathology, pharmacology and toxicology, and structural biology. Following the completion of required coursework, students will then need to write and defend their dissertations in order to receive their Ph.Ds.

While a doctorate degree can take quite a bit of time and effort to earn, the benefits can be exponential. Better career opportunities, better pay, and the chance to make a difference in the world all make earning a Ph.D. incredibly beneficial.

The cost of a Ph.D. program varies from school to school and program to program. Students are advised to contact potential schools in order to receive current information regarding the financial responsibility of earning a doctorate degree.

Students who graduate with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Science often have many employment opportunities available to them. Some individuals may choose to return to academia and teach as university professors, or they may join other scholastic organizations and oversee as well as contribute to research teams. Graduates may also work as biomedical engineers, as research scientists, and as biomedical writers for professional medical and healthcare publications.

International options for schooling are available so that students around the world can earn their degrees in a way that works best for them. If you would like to start earning your Ph.D. today, search for your program below and contact directly the admission office of the school of your choice by filling in the lead form.

Admission to School of CMB Graduate Programs

In addition to College of Engineering M.S. and Ph.D. requirements, the School of CMB has the following admission guidance and requirements:

Consideration is given particularly to the following components of the application: GRE and other test scores, undergraduate Grade Point Average, the student’s Statement of Purpose (SOP), and letters of recommendation. Quality students who have completed a B.S. degree in a non-engineering field such as Physics, Chemistry or Biology and who have completed mathematics through differential equations will be considered for admission to the School’s graduate program. These students typically are required to complete 3-4 additional engineering courses at the onset of their graduate education which will be determined by the School Curriculum Committee in coordination with the College Graduate Admissions and Advisory Committee. Change of major from M.S. to Ph.D.: a) each GRE score must be at least 150 (verbal and quantitative), b) Ph.D. entrance requirements must be met, c) adequate progress in the M.S. must be demonstrated, d) the undergrad GPA must be at least 3.0 (or its equivalent), and e) a compelling case for the change must be given. Ph.D. in Person-Centred Healthcare

We offer a cross-disciplinary Ph.D. program in Person-Centred Healthcare. The aim of the program is to educate for research aiming at producing new knowledge to develop and support person-centered healthcare practice, including health promotive, bio-medical, organizational and political preconditions for such practices. Candidates with external funding are welcome to apply.

Person-centred healthcare research

Person-centred healthcare research is research taking the needs and values of the individual person as a point of departure, on the individual, interdisciplinary or organizational and systems level. Person-centred values and principles – like respect, autonomy, participation, justice, dignity, trust and patient safety and rights – are central to healthcare practice and policy. However, the fundamental principles of person-centeredness are constantly under pressure, due to a series of factors, like demography, organizational changes, implementation of ICT and a constant drive to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness in the healthcare services. In this perspective, the aim of the PhD-program is to qualify for top-level research on different aspects of what the realization of person-centered principles and values in healthcare presupposes and implies....
