The basic problem of the processes of proliferation, intercellular relationships and spatial organization of cells, which are very significant especially in the early stages of human development, but in varying degrees depending on the type and functional state of the tissue, essentially continues throughout its life. Aim of the study is also clarify their mutual substance metabolism and their role in the regulation of life processes such as hormones, neurotransmitters, growth factors, receptors, antibodies, signal molecules etc. A very important field is also research into biological membranes, membrane transporters, subcellular components, energy transformations, extracellular matrix and the role of the second messengers in cell regulation. The research focused on the role of free radicals in terms of their action as mutagens, on the research of other toxic agents for nucleic acids and biomembranes and on the research of carcinogenesis and atherogenesis. Biochemistry and pathobiochemistry deals mainly with biochemical and molecular biological problems of biomacromolecules, i.e. proteins and enzymes, lipids and nucleic acids, as well as their structural and other important low-molecular substances in nutrient systems. Aim of the study is also clarify their mutual substance metabolism and their role in the regulation of life processes such as hormones, neurotransmitters, growth factors, receptors, antibodies, signal molecules etc. A very important field is also research into biological membranes, membrane transporters, subcellular components, energy transformations, extracellular matrix and the role of the second messengers in cell regulation. The research focused on the role of free radicals in terms of their action as mutagens, on the research of other toxic agents for nucleic acids and biomembranes and on the research of carcinogenesis and atherogenesis. Methodological field requires knowledge offundamental techniques and separation and functional characterization of biomacromolecules as well as low-molecular biochemical components of cells and body fluids, or molecular biology techniques, or cell and tissue culture cultivation. This study program focuses on monitoring and determination of substrates and products of normal and pathological metabolism, hereditary and acquired metabolic disorders, and on the maintenance of a constant internal environment of the organism. Biochemistry and pathobiochemistry form smooth transitions to molecular biology as well as to a number of basic and clinical disciplines, especially for clinical biochemistry, with which it largely coincides.
