PhD in Biomedical Informatics


Program Description

A graduate can process independently and at the appropriate level topics from the field of biomedical informatics. He/she is able to apply acquired knowledge as a researcher and a manager in the field of biomedicine and healthcare, e.g. in design and evaluation of healthcare information systems, in the field of telemedicine, decision support systems, knowledge discovery in biomedical databases and in analyses of biomedical data and knowledge by means of statistical methods and methods of artificial intelligence. He/she can be employed in all areas of biomedical research and also in creating an information and knowledge society in healthcare. His/her place can be found in companies dealing with the development and distribution of healthcare systems, production, and distribution of medical equipment and software.

Description of verification and evaluation criteria

The entrance examination is held in the form of an interview before a board and it checks the student’s capacity for scientific work in the given field. Discussion about a project of dissertation thesis is a part of the interview.

The board evaluates:

  1. The topic of the thesis must be a component of biomedical informatics.
  2. Original results should be able to be published in an impact factor journal.
  3. Plan of financing of the thesis should be prepared in advance.
  4. Consultation of the project with an intended tutor.

Conditions for admission

Admission to Doctoral studies is conditioned by successful completion of a Master's study program.
