Master - Music Therapy
Our department works closely with the German Centre for Music Therapy Research. These are optimal conditions for learning the scientific foundation behind the use music in healing the sick. In our music therapy training clinic, students are able to apply their knowledge in direct contact with the patients. Our main treatment methods are various, and range from chronic pain to adjustment disorders, tumors and strokes. We have particularly specialised in the outpatient treatment of children with headaches, delayed speech and development, behaviour problems, autism and tumors.
Master of Arts (M.A.) in Music Therapy: research programme
Successful completion of the two-semester, “consecutive” Master’s programme in Music Therapy at the SRH University Heidelberg is awarded the academic degree of “Master of Arts (Music Therapy)”. It is open to students with a state-accredited, eight-semester undergraduate degree – either Bachelor’s or German Diplom – in Music Therapy.
Master of Arts (M.A.) in Music Therapy: clinical programme
The four-semester, “non-consecutive” Master’s programme in Music Therapy at the SRH University Heidelberg is state accredited. Its successful completion is awarded the academic degree of “Master of Arts (Music Therapy)”. This track is open to students with an at least six-semester degree from a state-accredited college in the areas of Music/Musicology, Psychology, Medicine, Social Pedagogy, Special Education, Music Therapy, or other related disciplines.

We are the only music therapy programme in Germany to also offer training for qualification as a child and youth psychotherapist.

All study programmes at our department were accredited by the Accreditation Agency for Study Programmes in Health and Social Sciences (AHPGS) and the German Accreditation Council (DAR) in 2005.
