In this Medical Office Assistant Diploma Program, students learn how to organize a medical office and are trained to prepare and administer basic medical office tests. This program upholds the highest possible level of standards and it keeps current with the industry and employers requirements.
Students will learn how to assess and prioritize patient appointment requests, and respond to patients’ basic questions about their medical condition and prescriptions. In addition, students will learn general office procedures and administration including the use of medical billing software package. Students will also receive First Aid and CPR training and certification.
Upon graduation, students are prepared to begin a career as an Admitting Clerk, Emergency Room Admitting Clerk, Medical Secretary, Medical Transcriptionist, Medical Receptionist, Medical Billing Clerk or Medical Office Assistant.
- Applicants must possess a high school diploma or meet the requirements for mature student status;
- Applicants must successfully pass the Vancouver Career College Admissions Test;
- Signature by student acknowledging that prior to practicum they will successfully complete a clear Criminal Record Search, obtain a physicians note of good health, a negative reaction to a TB test or a chest x-ray, and have a typing speed of at least 50 wpm (MOA practicum only). TB clearance must not exceed 12 months at the time of enrolment.
