Public health sciences promotes health and quality of life, disease prevention and improvement of health systems. The Master's Programme in Public Health Sciences provides a global perspective to the public health field and has a multidisciplinary approach. The programme provides advanced studies in epidemiology and its application within public health. Students will acquire in-depth knowledge of epidemiological and statistical methods, data acquisition and management, and methods for outcome assessment of public health interventions and policies. The focus is on applied epidemiology in order to develop the skills to describe, analyse and reflect upon a variety of public health issues and to critically review epidemiological studies.
Karolinska Institutet (KI) is one of the world's leading medical universities where public health is a major focus. The Master´s Programme in Public Health Sciences gives insight into local and global public health challenges with the aim of improving the health of populations. Accordingly, the Department of Public Health Sciences is dedicated to teaching, research and contributing to the policy dialog on public health. The Master's Programme in Public Health Sciences consists of two years’ full time studies in the second cycle (Master’s level), amounting to 120 credits. The programme emphasises research and has strong links to various research groups at Karolinska Institutet.
The first year focuses on teaching the basics of public health: epidemiology, health economics, policy and management. Depending on the track chosen, students will either study applied epidemiology or advanced courses in health economics, policy and management. The programme has a sound scientific base and combines public health theory and practice. In addition, students will be introduced to research preparatory work lead by renowned researchers, including professors.

Graduates are well prepared for several positions in the private and public sectors, particularly with authorities responsible for environmental and health issues,both in Sweden and abroad. The programme provides a solid foundation for graduates wishing to continue with studies at doctoral level (PhD).

Specific entry requirements
A Bachelor's degree or a professional degree equivalent to a Swedish Bachelor's degree of at least 180 credits in public health science, healthcare or other relevant social sciences subject area. Proficiency in English equivalent to the Swedish upper secondary school course English 6/English B.
Proficiency in the English language can be documented by an internationally recognised test such as TOEFL, IELTS or other documentation that according to regulations certifies the equivalence of English 6/English B at Swedish upper secondary school.
