Objectives and interest of the MasterThe use of animals such as dogs and horses in therapeutic, socio-educational and leisure processes has experienced a significant increase in the last five years in our country. In Spain, there have been numerous entities that have been founded with the aim of carrying out what have been called Animal Assisted Interventions (IAA). The IAHAIO (International Association of Human-Animal Interaction Organizations) defines them as those interventions in the fields of health, education and social services, which include the participation of animals and whose purpose is to contribute to therapeutic and socio-educational improvement of people.
University training at IAA is scarce, this Master being the first to be official in Spain. This will facilitate access to PhD programs in this area of research, as well as specialized postgraduate training in IAA. The main objective pursued with its teaching is to achieve specialized training and training of professionals in the use of dogs and horses for the design, management, planning and development of IAA programs and entities applied to the different fields of therapeutics. human, socio-educational and leisure contexts.
This Master is aimed at those professionals who, within an IAA team, develop the work of designing exercises and intervention sessions, planning these sessions, organizing teamwork, managing IAA entities and, of course, in the case of being a therapist / educator, lead an IAA session.
Who is the Master aimed at?This official master's degree is aimed at students and professionals from various fields of health, education and social intervention.
However, any other university degree with access to Master's studies will be admitted, although different levels of preference are established (high, medium and low) depending on the academic-professional affinity.

Final Master's Project (12 ECTS)Faculty profileThe faculty of this master's degree comes from professional and academic fields, and has been selected for the recognition of their professional and teaching career at a national and international level.MethodologyThe master develops a face-to-face phase, complemented by work through a virtual teaching / learning platform (participation in discussion forums, document analysis, delivery of work, testing), thus allowing student-teacher interaction.
On the other hand, attendance at face-to-face sessions and participation in the virtual teaching / learning platform will be completed with role playing (simulation of IAA sessions), introductory activities, conferences, seminars, debates, presentations / exhibitions, as well as corresponding individual and / or collective tutorials, both to supervise the directed works, clarify doubts or make comments on the individual works.
The external internships will consist of the study of procedures / cases in a professional setting, while the Master's Thesis will have an individualized guidance / tutoring.
The planned evaluation systems will consist of: class attendance control; participation in face-to-face and virtual activities; management of theoretical concepts of the subject; realization of works, cases or exercises; report of the tutor of external practices; report of the TFM tutor and defense of the master's thesis.
