Our goal is to give students leading competence in biomedical research so that they are well prepared for independent work in medical research and development. The programme leads to a Master of Medical Science, with a major in Biomedicine. Teaching takes place in a research environment at the Biomedical Research Centre in Lund.
The first semester is devoted to advanced studies, including state-of-the-art experimental laboratory work using methodologies that are highly relevant for biomedical research areas. Applied Biostatistics are embedded within the semester’s courses. During the second and third semesters, you can individually adapt your studies depending on your areas of interest. Examples of electives are Tumour Biology, Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology, Microbial Pathogenesis, and Metabolic Diseases.
The second year is devoted to preparations for a future profession as a scientist, including scientific communication, publication and ethics in science. You will also undertake an independent research project, either at the University or at a private company in Sweden or abroad.
Compulsory courses: Advanced Molecular Medicine (30 credits), Master’s degree thesis (30, 45 or 60 credits).
Electives: You may choose among a number of courses at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science to create your own specialisation.
Throughout the programme, you will acquire cutting-edge skills in biomedicine. You will be qualified to work independently and in leading functions within medical research and development, both in a university context as well as in private industry and the public sector.
A completed Master’s programme can, if approved by a relevant authenticating body, be included as part of a PhD programme.
