MSc Public Health
The MSc in Public Health is suitable for applicants whose already work/or aim to work within a public health centre, perhaps at a management or supervisory level. This programme aims to attract students from a rich mix of cultural and academic backgrounds, which will add to its international focus and reflect the reality of today's global public health agenda.
The student will work out a study plan with an academic at the beginning of the course. There are core modules and optional modules, which enables the student to tailor the degree to their requirements.
Public Health (30 credits, core module)
Health Promotion in Practice (30 credits, optional module)
Working with Communities to Improve Health (30 credits, optional module)
Genetics and Health (30 credits, optional module)
Communicable Disease: Emergence and Detection (30 credits, optional module)
Plus one of either:
Undertaking Systematic Review (60 credits)
Research Methods in Health and Social Care (60 credits)
To be awarded the full MSc, 120 credits from the above plus the following must be completed:
Dissertation (60 credits)
Systematic Review (60 credits)
Work-Based Project (60 credits)
Applicants should normally hold a first degree or equivalent professional qualification. However, students who do not possess such a qualification, but have appropriate work experience may also be considered.
Applicants whose first language is not English will need to demonstrate proficiency in English in accordance with University Regulations. For example in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) students will need to achieve an overall band of at least 6.5, with at least 5.5 in each of the four sub-tests.
In addition to IELTS we do accept other English language qualifications, for example the West African Examination Certificate, International Baccalaureate, Cambridge Overseas School Certificate. Please contact us for more details.
