An M.D., or Doctor of Medicine, is an academic achievement that can take years of schooling to obtain. It is only awarded once students have shown they have the knowledge and experience required to practice medicine competently.
A Doctor of Medicine or M.D. is the highest degree a physician can receive, and it indicates that graduates have received the advanced medical training and education needed to practice as a medical professional. It may take about eight years of schooling to earn an M.D., depending on the program.
