Fanshawe's Health System Management program will prepare you for an exciting career in the field of Health Administration and e-health digital transformation.
What you will learn
As a student, you'll discuss fascinating global advancements in the use of technology in electronic patient records, automated voice transcription, digital imaging concepts, ADT (admission-discharge-transfer) systems messaging and workflow. You'll also develop valuable skills in protocol analysis using HL7 and Dicom, PHIPA/PIPEDA/Security, billing, and similar technology.
Upon graduation, this training will increase your marketability with employers who are looking for motivated graduates that understand the current systems that are used at health care facilities.
The program is also excellent preparation for students who are interested in additional qualification with Fanshawe certificates such as Project Management or Information Security Management.

Program Pathways
This program will offer many pathways for students who graduate from any of the diplomas offered in the School of Information Technology: Computer Systems Technician, Computer Systems Technology, Computer Systems Analyst and Interactive Web Design.
Graduates of the above programs at Fanshawe College or equivalent diplomas or degrees from other educational institutions may wish to augment this program with additional Graduate Certificates offered at Fanshawe College such as the Project Management Graduate Certificate or the Information Security Management Graduate Certificate.
Learning Outcomes
The graduate has reliably demonstrated the ability to:
Assess organizational requirements for health information system technologies (HIST) and evaluate the impact of HIST on business/clinical processes, and on health services delivery to inform change is necessary.
Develop, implement, and evaluate health information management practices, policies and processes to support client care, organizational goals, operations, and regulatory compliance.
Synthesize relevant local, national and global health care and health information management issues, trends, technologies and standards to support health information systems and processes.
Ensure compliance with the legal health obligations, as well as with the professional, ethical and organizational standards that ensure privacy, security and confidentiality in the access, retention, storage, and disposal of personal health information.
Ensure the completeness, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and integrity of health information throughout the management of its lifecycle.
Work professionally, ethically and collaboratively with stakeholders and as a member of an interdisciplinary health care team, to enhance the collection, distribution, use, security and awareness of quality health information and its impact on client care.

Program Residency
Students must complete a minimum of 11 credits in this program at Fanshawe College to meet the program residency requirement and graduate from this program.

Admission Requirements
A Two- or Three-Year College Diploma, or a Degree, preferably in Information Technology, Mathematics, Writing, or Health Sciences. Other backgrounds considered on a case-by-case basis
or
An acceptable combination of related work experience and post-secondary education as judged by the College to be equivalent to the above
English Language Requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English will be required to demonstrate proficiency in English by one of the following methods:
A Grade 12 College Stream or University Stream English credit from an Ontario Secondary School, or equivalent, depending on the program's Admission Requirements
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test with a minimum score of 88 for the Internet-based test (iBT), with test results within the last two years
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic test with an overall score of 6.5 with no score less than 6.0 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years
Canadian Academic English Language (CAEL) test with an overall score of 70 with no score less than 60 in any of the four bands, with test results within the last two years
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) with a minimum score of 59, with test results within the last two years
A Cambridge English Test (FCE/CAE/CPE) with an overall score on the Cambridge English Scale of 176 with no language skill less than 169, with test results within the last two years
An English Language Evaluation (ELE) at Fanshawe College with a minimum score of 75% in all sections of the test, with test results within the last two years
Fanshawe College ESL4/GAP5 students: Minimum grade of 80% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 9 or 75% in ESL4/GAP5 Level 10
Recommended Academic Preparation
Previous Health or Information Technology post-secondary education and/or training and/or work experience.
Applicant Selection Criteria
Where the number of eligible applicants exceeds the available spaces in the program, the Applicant Selection Criteria will be:
Preference for Permanent Residents of Ontario.
Receipt of Application by February 1st (After this date, Fanshawe College will consider applicants on a first-come, first-served basis until the program is full).
Achievement in the Admission Requirements.
Career Opportunities
Graduates will build skills useful within the healthcare field, leveraging their information technology and administrative experience in a variety of organizations. They will be equipped with the knowledge and skills required to assume Health Systems Management roles and ultimately management positions in the e-Health industry.
