This course will provide you with the practical skills and knowledge to perform massages for relaxation and health purposes. You will learn skills to assess a client's massage needs and plan and conduct a remedial massage based on a knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology and using skills in a wide range of soft tissue massage techniques.
You will also learn to work safely and ethically in a health care environment, to communicate effectively with clients and other health care workers and to operate your own massage practice. During this course you will be required to conduct and complete a large number of massages of varying types, work on a variety of community clients and attend and work in and with the massage industry.
Although a pass in a Science subject such Anatomy, Physiology, Human Biology or Biology is not an entry requirement for this course - students who have passed these subjects may have a better understanding of the course content.
Students are required to have equivalent to Australian Year 11 with passes in English. You need to provide a police clearance from your home country before you attend your work placement. You need to get this clearance before you arrive in Australia. You will also need a medical clearance once you have arrived in Australia. Students enrolled at North Metropolitan TAFE will have some online sessions as part of the course delivery. Students will require access to a computer with headphones and a microphone.
