Health Care Assistants provide support to the elderly and help them maintain a level of independence while easing their pain and improving their quality of life. You will care for people with diminished abilities for self-care and foster and maintain the client’s independence and trust.

Over the course of this program, students will:

  • Demonstrate the knowledge base, skills, and attitudes consistent with industry expectations for entry-level health care assistants
  • Use an informed problem-solving approach to provide care and assistance in promoting the physical, psychological, social, cognitive and spiritual well-being of clients/residents and families
  • Qualify for registration on the BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker registry

Entry Requirements

  • Grade 10 graduation or mature student status
  • Passing English Language Competency Requirements
  • Completion of a Criminal Record Consent Form under the Criminal Record Review Act
  • Proof of Immunity Status as required by industry
  • Acceptable Medical Examination Form completed by a physician
  • Industry required Proof of Immunity Status
  • Physician completed Acceptable Medical Examination Form

Language Proficiency Requirements: Overall IELTS Academic Test score of 6.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in Speaking and Listening and a minimum 5.5 in Reading and Writing (or other ESL equivalencies as determined by Stenberg). Must be within the last two years.
