The Dental Hygiene program prepares its graduates to provide comprehensive oral health care services in a variety of settings. Upon successful completion of the program and passing of the National Dental Hygiene Examination and Regional Board Examination, graduates are eligible to apply for mandatory state licensure.

The following list contains approximate fees for students who are accepted into the Dental Hygiene program at COD. These figures may change due to price increases.

Dental Hygiene Instrument Kit (for two years): $3,000.00 Uniforms: $255.00

PSB-HOAE Dental Hygiene Aptitude Exam: (visit the Testing Center webpage for current price and dates)

Membership: Students for the American Dental Hygiene Association ($65 per year): $130.00

Dental Loupes (approximate): $875.00

Tuition per credit hour*: Variable tuition applies to dental hygiene courses.

Lab Fees: $3,100.00

Dental Hygiene Board Review Course (Optional): $400.00

National Dental Hygiene Board Exam: $425.00

Regional Board Exam (NERB): $1,000

State Licensure Application: $100.00

All instruments, magnifying loupes, and uniforms must be purchased through either the COD Bookstore or the Dental Hygiene program.

The Dental Hygiene program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.

The Dental Hygiene program at College of DuPage admits one class per year. It is two years in length, not including the prerequisites that must be taken prior to starting in the program.

Career Information

A dental hygiene career offers opportunities to help people through clinical, educational and therapeutic services in order to prevent disease and promote good health. Dental hygienists work in a variety of clinical and professional settings, from private practices, hospitals and health departments to colleges, dental-related businesses, and health maintenance organizations. Dental hygiene jobs are expected to increase by more than 39 percent by 2016, according to the State of Illinois Occupational Employment Projections. Sample salaries are as follows:

Degree Information

College of DuPage offers an associate in applied science (A.A.S.) degree in Dental Hygiene. Prior to registration, students should meet with a program advisor for course selection.
