The main task of the University is to offer higher education based on the latest scientific discoveries in a broad international context . The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1948 as a branch of the Faculty of Medicine of the Slovak University. Then, in 1959, the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Philosophy merged, which led to the founding of this new university in eastern Slovakia.

The Faculty of Medicine of the University cooperates closely with many important universities and institutions in: Prague, Paris, Nantes, Bordeaux, Padua, Essen, Giessen, Düsseldorf, Amsterdam, Utrecht, Zurich, Turku, Oulu, Salamanca, Krakow and others.

Academic requirements

• Bachiller certificate or being in last year
• Medium-high English certificate (B2):
or Cambridge FCE; IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80
o If you do not have the official English certificate, do not worry, because your English level will also be evaluated through the written exam that will be done, before being accepted.

• Specific requirements: Proficiency in the English language (assessed in the compulsory entrance exam) and good knowledge in Biology and Chemistry (written exam).

Structure of the program

The graduate in General Medicine has adequate theoretical knowledge of both theoretical, preclinical and clinical disciplines. In their practical training they will learn basic preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

In their postgraduate education, they become specialists in primary care and can obtain qualifications to work as doctors in any medical specialty.

The study of general medicine lasts for 6 years and its graduates receive the title of "Doctor of General Medicine" (MUDr.), Which automatically allows them to work not only in the countries of the European Union, but in almost the entire world .

Once you have finished your studies, you will obtain the title of general practitioner, with which you will attend to patients, thanks to the knowledge you have acquired during these last 6 years. You can work in hospitals, clinics and private offices.

International opportunities

The Faculty of Medicine trains doctors and surgeons with a broader general medical education, capable of providing professional medical assistance and directed attention to preventive aspects of medicine. Vocational training is based on the latest knowledge in medical sciences and students also have the possibility of obtaining the background for scientific activity.

Students acquire specialized knowledge in theoretical, preclinical and clinical topics through conferences, seminars, specialized practices and consultations.

The Faculty has several important partners : the Faculty Hospital in Košice and six other medical facilities, where faculty is provided practice to students.

As for the organization, the faculty is divided into 57 institutes and clinics, which provide the activity of the faculty.
