The study of tropical medicine prepares students for work in tropical and developing countries. Programs in this field expand upon students' existing knowledge and concern the outstanding challenges of practicing medicine in regions where resources are often limited.

With university education being upper most level in the education system of the Belgium, the government has put more emphasis to make sure that the students’ lives is made as simple as possible through the loan and grants programs. They offer sponsors for international students with poor and vulnerable backgrounds who would like to study in this country.

Students can select individual courses in accordance with their interests. Students may also structure a series of classes in a way that might achieve specific objectives such as improving job skills, pursuing new careers, or obtaining certificates or degrees.
