Courses are forms of study that cover a wide range of academic fields. These learning modules can take years to complete. In some instances, students finish their studies during the summer.
What are courses in nursing? These areas of study instruct students on how to care for sick, disabled and dying patients, and how to prevent illness and promote health. Specifically, participants may learn how to serve the healthcare needs of communities, groups, families or individuals within various settings. The curriculum generally covers the study of newborn, pediatric, maternal and adult nursing. In some cases, community heath, gerontological and psychiatric nursing are also covered. Course can include introductory physiology, elementary statistics, principles of nutrition and chemistry. Completion of this coursework can lead to students obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and becoming licensed registered nurses.
Nursing students can gain proficiency in skills such as recording vital signs and changing dressing correctly. These are skill sets that are essential to succeeding in a nursing-related career. Additionally, developing an attention to detail is a trait students can nurture, which is beneficial in various areas of their lives.
Courses in nursing are available internationally. With a wide range of schools offering these classes, the educational costs tend to vary quite a bit.
The demand for nursing professionals is expected to rise. Courses in nursing may lead to a variety of job opportunities. Graduates venture into careers such as licensed practical nurses, nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, nurse midwives and nurse anesthetists. Increasingly, employers are requiring that students obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing. In general, graduates who have a BSN have the best career options.

A nurse midwife is an advanced practice registered nurse who has specialized education and training in midwifery. In the countries where exists, they are considered a type of midwife. Midwife means "with woman" and this is the mantra for the American College of Nurse Midwives, "With women for a lifetime." Nurse midwives function as primary healthcare providers for women and most often provide medical care for relatively healthy women, whose births are considered uncomplicated and not "high risk," as well as their neonates.
