Universities offer courses that provide intensive study into a specific academic subject. Students can take classes that suit their personal interests, scholastic goals or career aspirations.

What are courses in complementary medicine? These courses introduce students to the wide range of alternative medical therapies that are used along with traditional medicine. Examples of these complementary treatments include massage therapy, meditation, chiropractic medicine, osteopathy and acupuncture. Students can learn about relevant ethical and legal issues, the effects of animal assisted therapy, bodywork healing, and cultural competence in healthcare. Coursework usually explores the use of natural products such as botanicals, herbs, probiotics and nutraceuticals.

Students taking courses in complementary medicine can gain good business and organizational skills, which are beneficial for starting a new career or opening a private practice. Communication skills are another trait students can develop, which are useful in other areas of their lives.

The cost for taking courses in complementary medicine isn’t the same for every university. Factors such as course duration can influence how much students pay. This is why prospective students are advised to compare the tuition and fees of each institution.

There are typically two career paths for complementary medicine students. They can either work for someone else or choose self-employment. Graduates who prefer the former can land jobs working for companies that manufacture and distribute natural supplements. There are opportunities to work as administrators for alternative medicine facilities. Still other students may opt for teaching at community colleges or alternative medicine centers. For professionals with an entrepreneurial streak, they can open private practices where they work as specialists. Common career titles can include reflexologist, acupuncturist, massage therapist, nutritionist, personal trainer, chiropractor and aromatherapist.

Universities around the globe offer online learning modules, which makes it easier for students to complete courses in complementary medicine. Search for your program below and contact directly the admission office of the school of your choice by filling in the lead form.
