About the course
In addition to excellence in professional training, the Biomedicine course at the Methodist University allows students to make contact with their professional career even within the University. In the School Laboratory of Clinical Analyzes, the students attend the community and have contact with technologies used in the day to day profession as the Laboratory of Molecular Biology and Cell Culture.
In the Nucleus of Research, the student can have contact with the basic research and participate in projects of Scientific Initiation in different areas: Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Experimental Oncology, among others. At the Neuroscience Center the student can work on research projects of great relevance to the area.
All this, added to humanistic training, to the concepts of sustainability and entrepreneurship and the vision of the future that the course provides makes our student a differentiated and contested professional in the job market.
The course has an innovative pedagogical project and a modern modular structure that guarantees the training of skills and competences sought by employers of diverse segments, incorporating issues related to entrepreneurship, management in the health area and training of scientists.
The modules are taught by master docents and doctors with great experience in teaching, research and work in the labor market. In addition, the modules are taught by more than one teacher, which guarantees the specificity of the subjects addressed and the proximity to the student.
Practical classes in qualified laboratories with class division and individualized participation in experiments with microscopy, biochemistry, physiology, microbiology and neurosciences and behavior.
In this way, the student of Biomedicine of Metodista counts on: • The Module of Internship since the first semester that allows to experience in practice the routine of Biomédico; • Humanistic training modules such as citizen training module, public health and biomedical legislation address the role of biomedical in public health and, together with university extension actions, provide the student with contact with needy communities and philanthropic institutions in order to identify And propose action strategies to improve the quality of life, helping in the formation of an integral professional; • The Environmental and Food Technology and Management Module, which addresses aspects related to the environment, nutrition and sustainability, and partners with the Sustainability Center of the Environmental Management Course of the Faculty, where the student can carry out an internship for Environmental Analysis.
Scientific Research activities are developed in the Center for Biological Research and Neuroscience Center of the Faculty of Health, where the student can develop projects of Scientific Initiation in several areas of knowledge, such as Human and Food Microbiology, Pharmacology, Oncology, Biology, Molecular, Neurosciences and Behavior, being able to receive scholarships of the program PIBIC developed with partnership of CNPq (National Council of Scientific and Technological Development). All research and teaching activities are conducted by trained professionals.
In addition, there is the Clinical Analysis Nucleus (NAC), which develops research in the area of Clinical Analysis and allows students who choose the qualifications of the clinical area to do their obi gatory stage. The NAC has state-of-the-art equipment, is automated and counts on qualified biomedical professionals to provide direct contact with the technology and innovations of the area, with the objective of developing and improving the professional training and guaranteeing its preparation for the job market. The NAC integrates the Polyclinic.
The NAC has an EXCELLENT concept by PNCQ (National Quality Control Program) and integrates the Methodist Polyclinic which allows the student to interact with other health professionals and participate in interdisciplinary teams, facilitating multiprofessional correlation.
Stages in the grid in the first semesters of the course allow early living in an environment similar to that of the labor market, with general and specific training skills. Partnerships with several Laboratories and Research Institutions facilitate the accomplishment of internship in different areas. Specific Training Coordination supports the Coordination of the Course giving more agility in the partnerships and ensuring the supervision of the quality of the internship. Lectures with organizational psychologists and HR managers help the student to position himself in interviews. Meetings with graduates and other professionals transfer experiences in the trajectories of the various careers. Trainee Program, which offers temporary vacancies in our clinical laboratory for the graduates of the course, allowing to accumulate experience and increase employability.
In the health area, the Biomedicine course deserves special mention, since the professional has the possibility of acting in several areas of knowledge, such as molecular biology, nuclear medicine, biotechnology, human reproduction, environmental analysis, criminal expertise, acupuncture, aesthetic biomedicine, Teaching in technical and higher education among many others allowed by the Federal Council of Biomedicine.
Our course provides basic subsidies so that the student can practice in any of the 35 habilitation areas. The course allows the student to leave the graduation with up to 2 qualifications.
Due to the general training of these professionals, it is possible to work both in teaching (technical courses or higher) and in research (basic and applied areas), mainly in laboratory diagnostics and in biotechnology. In addition to important public health issues, the biomedical will also work with the study of human genetics and molecular biology. Hospitals, laboratory and imaging diagnostic centers, assisted fertilization clinics and technical courses in Clinical Pathology are some of the places that offer opportunities for biomedical. In addition, there are opportunities in the pharmaceutical and food industries, production centers for biological supplies, hemotherapy services, companies dedicated to the development of diagnostic equipment, among others.
The constant technological evolution in the diagnosis expands the options in the market.
