Program Description

Bioanalytical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Analysis (M.Sc.) Part-Time

Fresenius University of Applied Sciences

This program allows Bachelor’s graduates and certified engineers to deepen their knowledge of analytical chemistry, bioanalysis, quality assurance, life sciences and research. The English-language program encourages students to exchange information and ideas with fellow students from all over the world.

Degree course content

In-depth knowledge of modern analytics

Fast and precise analytical methods are more crucial than ever in research, quality control, and production monitoring. Analytical chemistry, which identifies and quantifies chemical substances, plays an important role in practically every branch of chemistry.

The increasing significance of biopharmaceuticals (biologicals), modern medical diagnostics services, and solving complex forensic questions would all be inconceivable without cutting-edge analysis.

This is the focus of the English-language Bio-and Pharmaceutical Analysis (M.Sc.) program at Hochschule Fresenius – University of Applied Sciences, which offers in-depth knowledge of analytical methods such as immunoassays and mass spectrometry, and their specific areas of application.

Bachelor’s and diploma graduates can attend the program to learn about different methods and how they can be applied, compared, and evaluated. Students also learn about key legal requirements relevant to the development, registration, production, and distribution of medicinal products. Quality assurance measures, including those for analytical methods, are also an important part of the program.

The School of Chemistry, Biology & Pharmacy [School of Chemistry, Biology & Pharmacy] at Hochschule Fresenius – University of Applied Sciences places great value on ensuring that lectures always tackle topical and contemporary requirements and questions within the analytical sciences. Lectures cover topics such as analyzing proteins, nucleic acids, polysaccharides, and lipids, and clarifying 3D biomolecular structures.

Numerous practical phases in the laboratory enable students to work on various projects, including independent work, and to gain experience of modern analytical devices. The study program is rounded off by case studies and excursions to companies in the pharmaceutical and bioanalysis industry with integrated workshops. These help students to find suitable topics and potential corporate partners for their Master’s thesis. You can also write your thesis abroad.

The international Master’s in Bio- and Pharmaceutical Analysis (M.Sc.) is offered each year as a full-time or part-time program commencing in the winter semester. Tuition and assessments are conducted in English.

Various channels of communication allow part-time students to contact their tutors and catch up on lectures at any time.

Career opportunities

Graduates of the Master’s study program in Bio- and Pharmaceutical Analysis can take on executive roles in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and diagnostic industries, public authorities, and research institutes.

Graduates can work in a wide variety of fields, from research and development, quality assurance, product management, support, and projects through to service analytics, technical and scientific sales, and customer support.

Further qualifications

Graduates with a relevant Master’s degree can join doctorate programs within and outside Germany. The School of Chemistry, Biology & Pharmacy at Hochschule Fresenius – University of Applied Sciences has an extensive network of higher education partners and offers individual consultations on this subject.

Fees and financing options

Hochschule Fresenius – University of Applied Sciences is a privately run higher education institution whose programs are recognized but not funded by the state. Therefore, we must charge fees for our programs.

  • Part-time fees: 480€ monthly tuition fee
  • if applicable 650€ one-off registration fee for non-EU students
  • if applicable fee for bridging course

The fees do not include the social contribution to be paid each semester for the General Students’ Committee (AStA) or the obligatory semester ticket required by some local transportation companies.

Tax deductibility

Students who have completed previous training can offset a second, part-time study program against tax in full. Fees are tax-deductible, as are books and travel expenses to the location of study.
