The experts of movement and functional capacity

A physiotherapist is able to draw up a high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy plan together with a client and base the plan on assessment, the client’s needs and clinical reasoning. The Degree Programme in Physiotherapy opens opportunities to work within the field of rehabilitation both in the private and public sector. After graduation, you are entitled to use the occupational title physiotherapist as laid down in a decree.

SAMK students will be employed

You may work within the field of rehabilitation both in the private and public sector. Your core knowledge is in the field of assessment and support of movement and function. You can work with people of all ages in hospitals, health care centres, private practices, industry, sports clubs, clinics and non-governmental organizations.

A physiotherapist is able to draw up a high-quality, evidence-based physiotherapy plan together with a client and base the plan on assessment, the client’s needs and clinical reasoning. The physiotherapist takes into consideration the ethical guidelines, legislation and effectiveness in his or her work. He or she has good intercultural, interactive and educational skills and is able to participate in projects involving multidisciplinary cooperation.

Internationality

Internationality is integrated as a natural part of the degree programme. Internationality competence manifests itself as language skills, interactive skills and cultural competence. The student operates in groups and networks with people from different cultural backgrounds developing intercultural communication skills. The student also has the possibility of completing studies or practical training periods abroad.

The National Authority for Medicolegal Affairs (TEO) and the state provincial office supervise physiotherapy practice which is regulated by effective legislation, values, professional ethics and practices in physiotherapy settings. Further information.

Practical Training and Thesis

The practical training introduces the student to practical work tasks that are essential especially to the professional skills and to the application of knowledge and skills in professional work. The practical training can be completed in the private or public sector, as an entrepreneur or in another separately approved working environment, fulfilling the set criteria, either in Finland or abroad.

In the thesis, you demonstrate your ability to apply your knowledge and skills in practical expert duties related to the professional studies.
