What is a Bachelor in Veterinary Medicine? This degree is designed for individuals who want to help animals via medical, therapeutic, dental, and surgical methods. This is the first step in the path to becoming a veterinarian, although this program can also prepare students for other jobs in the veterinarian field as well. Each program will vary, but most of them offer courses in veterinary sciences, diagnostic procedures, noninfectious and infectious disease, veterinary clinical medicine, toxicology, nutrition, preventive medicine, and professional ethics and standards.

Individuals who enjoy working with animals most often benefit from earning this degree in that it will train them for a variety of careers. Whether finding a job right after graduation or continuing on to earn a doctorate degree, students can be prepared with the proper education.

In the Veterinary Complex the practical activities of teaching, research, extension, as well as clinical and surgical care of small and large animals are developed, complementing the theoretical training given. Its support structure includes three surgical centers, eight clinical outpatient clinics, clinical analysis, animal reproduction and preventive medicine labs, necropsy and surgical techniques rooms, anatomy and microscopy laboratories, fluid therapy room and imaging sector ( Radiology, ultrasonography and echocardiography), as well as a large animal care yard, bays and kennels for the maintenance of the animals of the Complex and under care. During the course, the student is encouraged to participate in research activities developed by teachers, as well as technical-scientific cooperation programs maintained with national and foreign institutions, such as the San Diego Zoo, which maintains the only project In the country funded by the Zoological Society of San Diego. Educational activities are promoted, including courses and lectures to the community on basic care in animal husbandry, responsible possession and animal welfare, vaccination and castration campaigns for dogs and cats, adoption of abandoned animals and veterinary assistance to rural establishments . Course professors and students who undertake scientific initiation comprise a research group entitled Structural and Functional Veterinary Pathology registered at CNPq (National Council for Scientific and Technological Development), which develops projects in the research lines of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases in Domestic Animals And Wild Animals, Experimental Pathology, Veterinary Oncology and Toxicology. -
