Our Biology Major demands comprehensive exposure to the entire field yet allows the flexibility to emphasize your particular interest. You may concentrate your studies in environmental biology, laboratory research, and secondary education in biology or graduate or professional school preparation. Students on a research track have the opportunity to publish a paper by their senior year. Research areas include studies in cell growth, DNA expression, botany, parasitology and recombinant DNA technology. Pre-Optometry Optometry schools require only 2-3 years of schooling before admission into their programs. The OAT (Optometry Admission Test) must be taken the year prior to admission into the school. Typical requirements include one year of chemistry, one semester of organic chemistry, one semester of calculus, one semester of statistics, one year of physics, three courses in behavioral sciences, one year of English and speech, and one year of biology, plus other biology courses which should include microbiology, genetics, physiology and embryology. Pre-Physical or Occupational Therapy A student who wishes to pursue a career in physical therapy or occupational therapy can come to Greenville College to get a degree in biology or psychology and the necessary prerequisites for admission into a master's program in PT or OT. The student would take the GRE exam in the spring or summer of their junior year. The first semester of their senior year, the student would apply to graduate programs in which they are interested. Entrance Requirements Greenville College admits students who desire to achieve a liberal arts education in an evangelical Christian context. Members of this community are either committed to Christ or are sympathetic to the Christian perspective. Applicants are evaluated by consideration of their academic record, test scores, references, interviews, and participation in extracurricular activities. However, each candidate will be evaluated on the basis of the individual credentials presented to the College in support of the application. *Special Note: A student pursuing an education degree with Greenville College who submits a composite score of 22 on the ACT (the composite score must include the writing portion of the test) will be able to use their composite ACT in lieu of the TAP/Illinois Basic Skills test.
