Bachelors in Biomedicine. Why study the Bachelor of Biomedical Science It is an exciting time to study Biomedical Science at UQ. This brand new 3-year program replaces the previous 4-year program. Biomedical scientists provide the foundation of modern healthcare and assist in developing treatments for diseases. Your studies will focus on the human body at the molecular, cellular and whole body levels and the disciplines of biochemistry and cell biology, physiology, developmental biology, microbiology, pharmacology and neuroscience. In this program, you will discover the latest in globally relevant biomedical research from leading scientists based at UQ's research institutes. You will also learn the scientific process through activities ranging from experimental design and hands-on experiments to computer programming. Entry requirements Entry scores All international applicants need to meet the minimum entry score for admission into this program. If you’re currently studying year 12 (or equivalent) in Australia or New Zealand, you need to meet this program’s minimum OP or Rank score. If you’re currently completing your senior schooling elsewhere, you need to meet this program’s minimum equivalent international entry score. If you’re not a current school leaver, your application will be considered on an individual basis. Prerequisites Year 12 or equivalent - English, Mathematics B, plus one of Chemistry or Physics English Proficiency IELTS overall 6.5; reading 6; writing 6; speaking 6; listening 6. For other English Language Proficiency Tests and Scores approved for UQ, view the English proficiency policy below. In order to gain entry to an academic program at UQ, you will have to demonstrate you have the appropriate level of English language skills. To meet the UQ's English language proficiency requirements, you must demonstrate one of the following: a score equivalent to four semesters of Sound Achievement in Queensland Studies Authority English, English for ESL Learners or Australian or international equivalent. Less than four semesters may be considered for some programs. at least 6.5 overall and a minimum of 6.0 in each sub-band of the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or equivalent test. Some programs have higher English proficiency requirements; see individual program requirements. Other equivalent tests such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic are also accepted, and other qualifications and experience may also be considered. Study Abroad and Incoming Exchange students are only required to meet the overall score (eg 6.5 IELTS or 87 TOEFL or 64 PTE). Visa requirements International students who are accepted into full-time study in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science are eligible to apply for an Australian student visa. The Australian Government has simplified the visa application process. Now, all international students apply for the Student Visa (subclass 500). Program structure Courses The courses offered in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science are set out in the course list. Each course is allocated a certain number of units (#). A standard full-time study load is 8 units per semester. Program Rules The Program Rules explain what is required to complete the Bachelor of Biomedical Science. These requirements include the total number of units you need to complete in order to graduate. Dual programs Dual programs let you study two degrees at the same time. Each dual program has a single set of Program Rules. The following dual programs are available with the Bachelor of Biomedical Science: Bachelors of Biomedical Science/Science Concurrent diplomas A concurrent diploma is a diploma-level qualification (AQF 5) that you can study alongside your bachelor's program.
