Queen Mary University of London, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry (Malta)

Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) offers a five-year Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme taught on the Mediterranean islands of the Maltese Republic. The MBBS is taught by Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, a faculty of QMUL, a member of the Russell Group of leading research-led UK universities.

Scholarships will be available in 2018 for 2018/19 entry.

The programme has been designed to provide students with the medical knowledge, clinical skills and professional attitudes that are required to become a competent Foundation Year (FY1) Doctor. Our spiral curriculum is taught in a series of modules which are based on body systems which, in turn, encompass various scientific and medical themes. The programme is the same as the MBBS London programme in terms of its core curriculum, a method of delivery and selection criteria.

Structure

The Medicine MBBS Malta programme has been designed to provide students with the medical knowledge, clinical skills and professional attitude that are required to become a competent and safe FY1 Doctor.

The curriculum is taught in a series of modules which are based on BODY SYSTEMS which, in turn, encompass various scientific and medical THEMES.

International Baccalaureate

The full International Baccalaureate is acceptable as an entry qualification. You must offer: three subjects, including Chemistry or Biology and one other science or mathematical subject at Higher Level, and three subjects at Standard Level including Chemistry or Biology if not offered at the Higher Level. If English is not offered as part of the diploma, it must be offered at GCSE, at grade B or above or acceptable equivalent. The minimum requirement is for 37 points in total with a minimum of 6 points in the Higher Level science subjects and 5 points in the third Higher Level subject.

A Levels Grades Requirements

Minimum entry from 2018: 3 A Levels at AAB

  • Chemistry or Biology
  • Another Science or Maths (Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or Maths)
  • Any A level except Critical Thinking or General Studies

For all A-Level applicants:

If A Level Maths and Further Maths is offered in the same sitting, Further Maths is acceptable at AS Level only.

General studies and Critical Thinking are not accepted subjects at AS and A Level.

A Levels requirements must be achieved in one sitting over no longer than a 2 year period. Barts and The London does not consider any applications from students who are re-sitting their AS or A Level year thereby taking 3 years to achieve the required grades unless protected under the Equality and Diversity Act 2010. Applicants citing this provision must make the school aware with evidence by September 1st of the year of application to ensure their application is suitable to be considered under this framework.

English Language requirements

  • IELTS with a score of 7.0 overall
  • IELTS must have been taken within 2 years.
