The main aim of the program in Occupational Therapy is to educate specialists who contribute to enabling occupation for people with physical, mental or emotional impairments by developing, recovering or maintaining their daily living and work skills. They also support them to compensate for permanent loss of function by adapting the home, school and work environment.


The curriculum is designed in compliance with the requirements of the European Network of Occupational Therapy in Higher Education (ENOTHE) and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT). In 2014 the bachelor programme at the University of Ruse was approved by WFOT.

The education is structured in fundamental and humanitarian courses, biomedical courses, occupational therapy courses and 1020 hours of practical training.

Occupational therapists work with all age groups and in a wide range of physical and psychosocial areas and participate in planning of the architectural environment. Places of employment may include hospitals, clinics, day and rehabilitation centres, home care programmes, special schools, industry and private enterprises, as well as private practices, education and consultancy institutions. The duration of studies is 4 years. The tuition fee is 1250 EUR per semester.

Admission requirements: High school diploma, giving access to universities in the country of origin.
