Undergraduate Research

Students are encouraged to conduct hands-on research in the field and in the lab to prepare for the workforce, professional school or graduate school.​

Profession & Graduate School Acceptance Rate​

​​Graduates of our program are more than twice as likely to be accepted into professional and graduate school, compared to the national average of ​41%.

Internship Field Experience

Biology students have the opportunity to travel nationally and internationally for extensive hands-on field experience.

​​​​​Undergraduate Student Research​​

Work one-on-one with instructors through hands-on research. 

Students are ​encouraged to conduct hands-on research at the undergraduate level, which allows students to experience real-life applications of classroom material while enhancing their understanding of the scientific process and the complexities of biological systems. Research projects are completed in designated laboratories within our green award-winning Davis Street Building and in remote field locations including the Rieck Center for Habitat Studies and various locales nationwide. Our students have presented their work at national conferences and served as authors on published manuscripts​.

The 2019 graduating class of biology majors had an 85% acceptance rate into graduate/professional school and a 100% acceptance rate into veterinarian school for those who applied.

A 54-acre living laboratory for our student's environmental education

The wide range of natural habitats available provides the opportunity of hands-on experiences and the possibility for innovative use. Findlay students learn how to interact with and conduct research in nature without impacting it. 

Davis Street Building​​​​

An innovative and environmentally friendly science building

The University of Findlay was recognized by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) for the energy-saving heating and air conditioning technologies incorporated into the new Davis Street building addition in 2012.

Our 30,000 -square foot natural sciences building boasts:

  • Eight cutting-edge laboratories.
  • Classrooms and lecture halls.
  • Eight faculty offices.
  • Student lounges.
  • Geothermal heating and cooling system.
  • Computerized sensors to adjust the amount of light provided.
  • Sophisticated fume hoods that sense both human movement and the presence of chemicals, so that the hoods run when necessary, but drop to low power or shut off to save energy when not needed.
  • A system of piping to control rainwater runoff from the building.
